CHANNEL CHAPTER JANUES
Pasadena, TX
November 2019
Reporters: Kathy Daughtridge & Sally Dennett
Sally reporting. On October 28th, Kathy Daughtridge, Connie Buckner, Roger
Villarreal and Sally Dennett met Anita Cristosi at The Monument Inn for our
October “mobile” monthly membership meeting.
Sally and Bob recently spent a few weeks in Spain. Unfortunately, it rained
every day in the morning and the afternoons were soooo hot! Several
people in the tour group collapsed from the heat on multiple occasions….
others from too much Spanish
wine!!! One of the highlights was
touring the magnificent ALHAMBRA
PALACE and gardens in Granada.
4
In Valencia, we learned how to prepare traditional paella. The class started
by walking to the market to purchase ingredients. It took about 3 hours
from start to finish. Paella is a slow process, but very delicious.
We also went to a Flamenco show at the Palacio Andaluz in Seville. I was
exhausted after the show…and I was only watching the dancing!
We had a fun day in Toledo with a cheese and wine tasting at the Museo del
Queso featuring Manchego cheese. We tasted cheese aged from six months
to six years. The cheese was served with a pimento spread…. really tasty!
And of course, olives and olive oil.
We strolled down the street (very narrow…only foot traffic) to the St Tome
church where El Greco’s masterpiece painting is displayed.
The group ended the tour in Madrid at the Sobrinos de Casa Botin
restaurant, a Spanish restaurant open since 1725, famous for its roast
suckling pig, which was mentioned in a Hemingway novel, “The Sun Also
Rises”.

OKLAHOMA CITY CHAPTER
Sharon Eaton, Reporter
November 2019
Greetings from Oklahoma City,
From Marianne McEwin:
“Back in August, my sister Donna Kay and I traveled to Chapel Hill, NC to see one of our first
cousins. After one day in Chapel Hill, we drive 4 hours to Asheville and stayed at an AirBnB. That day
we toured the Biltmore Estate. It is so beautiful, but no air conditioning and lots of stairs! The gardens
and Conservatory are really neat, too. I’ve never seen that many kinds of orchids before and the little
train running through the conservatory is cute.
We had dinner after wine tasting at the Farm that Biltmore owns. The next day we shopped in
downtown Asheville. We went home on Monday through part of the Blueridge Parkway and visited the
Folk-Art Center there. Lots of gorgeous pottery, weaving and quilts.
One of our cousins on the other side of our great grandad’s family came down from Virginia Beach, VA
to meet us in Chapel Hill for a couple of days. We talked and shared genealogy and played cards and
had a blast. We met her because of Ancestry.com. She showed up on my sister’s DNA. DNA is a really
interesting way to meet family you never knew you had! Sometimes it can get really interesting!
Going to see my grandson this weekend as we have not been to Grand Prairie since July 1. I miss him!!
November 6 several of our first cousins are coming down to Marble Falls to celebrate our aunt’s 80th
birthday. We are renting a van one day and going to Schulenberg to see the Painted Churches. I’ve
always wanted to see them. Then on Nov 9, we are having a birthday lunch for her in town. So, lots of
things going on!
Hope you have a good fall as the weather is finally getting a little cooler here.”
Jerry and I are headed to Victoria, B.C. on November 1st for a week. Hopefully, I will
have some fun pictures to share next month.
6
I hope to see everyone in The Woodlands, Texas in June 2020.
Sharon
