Notes From Our Pastor

I want my first notes of this New Year to be those of gratitude. This past November, I stood before this parish community and asked for your support of a Stewardship Campaign. My stewardship message was further supported by written and verbal appeals from your fellow parishioners. At the time we communicated the financial needs of our parish, we were experiencing a $75,000 deficit in Sunday Offertory for the first four months of our fiscal year (July – October). Well, you responded to our request in an incredibly gracious manner. As of December 31, 2019, we have not only collectively erased the Offertory deficit, but we experienced an Offertory surplus of $21,000. In addition, Offertory giving for both Christmas and the Solemnity of Mary exceeded what was budgeted. I can’t thank you enough for your willingness to adjust your Offertory giving to our parish so that we can continue to offer the Worship, Ministries, and Services that Saints Peter and Paul provides. In early December, many members of our community gathered for our annual “Light the Way” benefit. “Light the Way” is a spirited celebration of our parish community with net proceeds always benefiting a parish project or Naperville area community need. This past December’s “Light the Way”, had the goal of raising money to support security enhancements for our junior high building; including a remodeled double door entry. Over $83,000 was raised at “Light the Way” (a record for this annual event), and our children and faculty will benefit from these planned improvements; allowing them to flourish in a safer and more secure environment. We are currently seeking proposals from area architects for the remodeled school entrance. I offer my thanksgiving to all who contributed to making this past “Light the Way” so successful. A week ago, the Church celebrated the “Baptism of the Lord”. We recognize that the public work and ministry of Jesus flowed from His Baptism by John in the River Jordan. We, the baptized, are called to serve others in response to our Baptism. We have been gifted by God with various talents and aptitudes that can be used for the building up of the Church and our community. At the end of every Mass, we are sent on “Mission” by our God. Our Saints Peter and Paul New Evangelization Commission is hosting a Ministry Fair this weekend in the Social Hall. Our Parish has over 70 different Ministries in which you can participate. Many of these ministries serve the needs of fellow parishioners, and some serve the needs of individuals and families from our larger Naperville area community. I recently celebrated a funeral for a parishioner who always told her children, “We are so Blessed. We need to serve others in return.” I encourage you to visit the Ministry Fair, or to take a Ministry Guide home with you to discern volunteer opportunities (these guides are available at the Church and Chapel entrances; the Ministry Guide can also be accessed on our parish website). It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to share our time and talents with others. Please consider the many varied opportunities that exist at Saints Peter and Paul for you to provide service to others. Saint Teresa of Calcutta always said, “We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” I express my gratitude to the New Evangelization Commission for their work in hosting and preparing materials for our Ministry Fair. In the Peace of Christ, Fr. Brad

What Baptism Makes of Us We begin Ordinary Times this liturgical year full of baptismal reminders. Jesus ranks ahead of John the Baptist and all of us. But though greater, he, in his good Spirit, remains with all of us. In Baptism, we are God’s servants, ordained to show God’s glory (and not our own), and be about God’s saving plan. And like Saint Paul and the Corinthians, we are called to be holy. How will I cherish Baptism today and rest in Christ loving me?

Congratulations to the top winning displays. 1st – Joe Szczap family; 2nd – Peter Kajawa family; and 3rd – Ed Graham family.

An Authentic Catholic Man Evening: A MEN’S Sacrament-based, Micro Retreat with Fr. THOMAS LOYA, STB, MA

Pastor, Author, and Authority on Theology of the Body

Fr. Loya will show us how to bring true love and joy into our homes and lead our families to heaven!

Thursday, January 30, 2020 in Saints Peter and Paul Ministry Center

Sponsored by: Fishers of Men at Saints Peter and Paul

A Fellowship of Authentic Catholic Men Following Christ, Leading Families to Heaven

"Manhood and a Sacrificial Brand of Love” Men by nature are designed by God to ‘spend themselves,’ to ‘give themselves away.’ Like all Truths of the Created Order, this sacrificial brand of love is stamped in the very language and theology of a man’s physical body. Men are conformed to Jesus Christ who was the High priest. All men, therefore are called to be ‘priests' and the essence of priest-hood is sacrifice—sacrificing oneself on behalf of others—on behalf of the bride. Sacrificial love is lived out in a man’s life in the smallest moments and in the most significant moments. This presentation will not only speak about the deep “why” of manhood and therefore of sacrificial love, but also the “how” of loving sacrificially in the ways that are specific to manhood. —Fr. Thomas J. Loya, STB., MA.

All men are welcome! A free will offering is all that is requested. 6:00pm Welcome and Opening Prayer / 6:05pm Sacrament of Reconciliation (optional) 6:30pm Holy Rosary / 7:00pm Holy Mass 7:45pm Fellowship, Light Snack 8:00pm “How do Authentic Catholic Men Show True Love?” -- Fr. Thomas Loya, STB, MA 8:30pm Faith Sharing / 9:00pm Closing Prayer

Be there for confession, the Rosary, Mass, a light snack and to listen as Fr Loya helps the Fishers of Men relaunch their new year of weekly Saturday morning storytelling and faith sharing gatherings. Each week the Fishers of Men of Saints Peter and Paul pray the Rosary at 6:25am, receive Holy Communion at 6:45am, attend Mass and share faith stories from 7:20am to 8:30am, relaxing together over coffee and a light breakfast. Every Saturday morning new guys make friends with new guys. Old friends renew friendships and make new friends.

Come join the SSPP Chapter of World Apostolate of Fatima, USA

We invite you to join us as we increase our devotion to Our Lady of Fatima and bring Our Lady’s Blue Army to Saints Peter and Paul. Our Lady has given us the formula to bring about peace in our times and to save souls from going to Hell. As Mary instructed the children at Fati-ma, we will pray the Rosary and commit to the pledges Our Lady promised. Through May, we will meet on the first Thursday of every month at 6:30pm in the Holy Family Chapel in the Ministry Center. We will pray the Rosary and continue to review the Fatima Prayer Cell Program. Please bring your Rosary and, if you did not do so already, $5.00 for the Fatima Prayer Book. Contact Joan Nocera at 630-484-7320 with any questions.

In this study, Bishop Robert Barron illuminates six biblical stories of conversion, demonstrating how six ordinary people, just like you, were met by Jesus where they were and called to a better life through Him. The common theme in each story is the turning of all one's attention and energy toward an ever deeper, personal relationship with Jesus Christ. In his characteristically energetic style, Bishop Barron explains how conversion is not so much a one-time event, but a life-long process. He explains, "Jesus Christ calls us in thousands of different ways to follow Him, as we strive on the path for spiritual excellence."

NEWS FROM THE KNIGHTS Saint Vincent de Paul After Jesus was baptized, he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and a voice was heard “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” As we give to the poor, we also can hear these same words.

Have you considered joining the Society of

St. Vincent de Paul so that you can live your Baptism more fully?

Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of Saint Vincent

de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-

person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and its patron, Saint Vincent de Paul. Please call 630-718-2127 to

learn more or to request assistance.

Transitional Housing Ministry

One of our families will be leaving the Transitional Housing Program at the end of January. As a result, we are in the process of screening new “candidates” to join the program and move into the available apartment. We are also looking for new mentors to work with this client and her children beginning in mid to late February. If you might be looking for a New Year’s resolution that would provide tremendous support to a homeless family in DuPage County, please consider becoming a mentor in the THM Ministry. If you would like more information regarding the Transitional Housing Ministry at Saints Peter and Paul, please contact Tom Dorn at 630-270-7303, or [email protected].

"Novena for Life" and "9 Days for Life" From January 21st to the 29th, the Knights of Columbus Council 1369 will be holding a Pro Life "Novena for Life." The "Novena for Life" is being promoted by both the USCCB and the Knights of Columbus. Please visit "9daysforlife.com" to receive email reminders each day or download the app. "9 days for Life" on Google play or Apple. Then follow the prayers for each of the 9 days. Please contact John Zabinski at 630-747-8439 with any questions.

On behalf of The Simple Gifts Foundation, the volun-teers and the families we are honored to serve together, thank you for all for the generosity and thought put into making the 2019 holiday season special. Whether you kindly chose to adopt a child with special needs, a senior struggling with medical issues or another child in need in some way, please know you eased burdens and put many smiles on everyone's face...including ours! The gratitude has been tremendous and we owe that to all of you. We look forward to working with you again this year and may God bless all of you in 2020. We wish to offer our sympathy and a promise of our prayers to the family and friends of:

Patricia Gorski, John Zimmerman

In your hands, O Lord, we humbly entrust our brothers and sisters. In this life you embraced them with your tender love; deliver them now from every evil and bid them eternal rest. The old order has passed away: welcome them into paradise, where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain, but fullness of peace and joy with your Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen
