School Advisory Council (SAC)

What  is  SAC?SAC  stands  for  School  Advisory  Council.    School  Improvement  is  an  absolute  priority  for  all  Broward  County  schools.    Every  school  has  a  school  Advisory  Council  (SAC).Purpose:•Study  the  school's  track  record  and  come  up  with  an  annual  plan  to  improve  education  in  vital  areas  such  as:    •student  achievement•curriculum•safety  •discipline

•The  SAC  committee  provides  a  place  where  parents  can  voice  their  opinions  and  provide  suggestions.

•  SAC  members  have  an  active  role  in  making  decisions  that  will  best  serve  the  best  interest  of  all  students.

•The  SAC  also  gives  parents  the  opportunity  to  actively  participate  in  setting  goals  and  making  plans  to  achieve  those  goals.

•SAC  allows  for  parents  to  identify  issues  that  need  to  be  addressed  concerning  the  school  climate.

The  next  SAC  meeting  will  be  held  on  January  8,  2014

S.T.A.M.P PROGRAM UPDATE(SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ARTS, MATHEMATICS & PREPARATORY)

S.T.A.M.P.  students  volunteered  with  the  Toys  for  Tots  Foundation  in  the  month  of  December  at  the  Navy  Operational  Service  Center,  Hialeah.    Students  assisted  with  sorting  toys  for  less  fortunate  children  in  the  community.    S.T.A.M.P.  students  next  trip  will  be  to  the  Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey  on  January  10,  2014.    During  this  field  trip  students  will  experience  animal  care:  trainers and caretakers combine patience, trust, respect, and praise to build enduring relationships with some of nature’s funniest, largest - and most ferocious - creatures.    They  will  learn  simple  science:  a dash of speed, a flash of timing, and a large dose of trust with daring acts that require concentration, patience, timing, dexterity and courage. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey performers are athletes, making them the perfect “real life” role models to encourage our students to be active and physically fit.

Extra Curricular ActivitiesFamily  Science  Night

On  December  3,  2014,  Village  Elementary  held  its’  Annual  Family  Science  Night.    The  Museum  of  Science  and  Discovery  provided  an  opportunity  for  parents  and  students  to  conduct  mini  hands-‐on  Science  experiments.      Some  of  the  experiments  included  real-‐life  situations  involving  dry  ice,  gravity  balls,  surface  tension,  animal  habitats,  magnetism,  sound  waves  and  vibrations.    Parents  were  really  excited  and  enjoyed  an  opportunity  to  conduct  experiments  and  discuss  Science  concepts  side  by  side  with  their  child.

Toy  Drive  Give-‐Away

The  holiday  season  was  truly  a  great  event  for  our  students  in  first  grade.    Our  business  and  community  partner  Cross  Country,  conducted  a  toy  drive  and  collected  over  100  toys  for  students.    Students  were  able  to  select  a  special  toy  for  the  holidays.    The  smiles  on  our  student  faces  were  priceless.    A  special  thank  you  to  Cross  County.

Holiday  Concert

Village  Elementary  School  hosted  our  Annual  Holiday  Concert  on  December  12,  2013.    Students  from  the  Chorus  and  Glee  Club  performed  for  our  Panther  Family  and  community  to  enjoy.    Chorus  highlighted  the  various  holidays  celebrated  during  the  month  of  December  through  song  and  melodious  rhythms.    Songs  from  Disney’s  movie  “The  Grinch”  were  performed  with  vocals  and  dance  by  our  very  own  Glee  Club.    A  special  thank  you  to  our  Chorus  and  Glee  Club  as  well  as  our  club  sponsors  Dr.  Symonette  and  Ms.  Stewart  for  working  with  our  students.    Once  more,  our  Holiday  Concert  was  as  success!
