JANUARY 2014 - NEED TO KNOW PURCHASING INFO - Awards season buzz is something to strongly consider when putting together your January orders. With both the Golden Globes (Jan. 12th) and Academy Award nominations (Jan. 16th) upcoming, January titles Captain Phillips (Tom Hanks, Picture, Director, Cinematography), Lee Daniels’ The Butler (Picture, Actor - Whitaker, Supp. Actress - Oprah), Fruitvale Station (Picture contender, Supp. Actress - Spencer), Rush (Cinematography), Enough Said (Supp. Actor - Gandolfini), Blue Jasmine (Supp. Actress - Hawkins, Screenplay) and 20 Feet From Stardom (Documentary). - It’s not a deep month as only the top 8 ranked titles require any significant depth to satisfy customer demand. Additionally, 3 major genres only have a few ranked titles Family Fun, Loads of Laughs and What a Rush. Check the bottom right corner of this page for a complete breakdown. - There are 4 titles releasing (Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, Captain Phillips and Jackass Presents Bad Grandpa that generated over $80 million at the box office compared to only 2 films in January 2013. The total combined box office of Jan. 2014 releases sits at $630 million which is 15% higher than the $550 million generated by titles released last January. - Only 7 recommended titles have a Blu-ray/DVD combo to split (fortunately they are all ranked in the Top 12) so you’ll really need to pay attention to your cost per copy for the remaining 20+ featured titles in order to reduce your cost of goods and maximize your revenues. - Join us ONLINE on Nov. 21st at 7:30pm for our last meeting of the year. We will be sharing our Rental Analysis of how titles released between January 2013 and June 2013 performed for stores across Canada. See average Rental, PV and Late revenues earned, Cost of Goods % and how this analysis strengthens our purchasing and marketing strategy and can help you run a more profitable store. - Unfortunately VVS Films is still not providing any promotional support for their titles so we recommend that you ONLY ORDER 1 BD/DVD combo of their key January release, Machete Kills. The title did not perform theatrically which combined with it not being featured in any of our in-store materials will significantly reduce consumer awareness and performance for the film in your store. - Turn over this page to view the Tiered Purchasing Recs for January. This tool was created based on member feedback from those who did not want to use our interactive Buy Recs spreadsheet. Using our Tiered Recs is simple. Pick your budget level and format to see our recommended order quantities. 4 YOUR CONSIDERATION...
