January 2017 Pleasant News Here we go…..off into another wonderful year. Just looking back into December of 2016, I was really touched by the large numbers of staff, residents and families who were with us in De- cember to celebrate Christmas on the neighborhoods. The reason for the season was evident in hearts and minds. Now back to the wonderful year ahead. Long term care continues to evolve. Some of the new projects ahead of us include the implementa- tion of new and revised regulations. One of the changes that our resi- dents will experience is the implementation of a formal grievance policy. We have always addressed resident concerns in a thorough and thought- ful manner, the difference now is that there is a prescriptive approach to this process. If you or your loved one have a concern, you may submit that concern to the Administrator, verbally or in writing, and we will get right on it. Similarly, we have been advised of revisions to our Resident Bill of Rights, and consequently our residents and resident representatives will be asked to review these. East View Villa and Estates Activities

Hello and Greetings to our friends in the Estates and East View Villa! Trust everyone has had a wonderful and blessed Christmas! We finished up the Christmas season with lots of fun activities and events. We baked peppernuts and made paperbox crafts to put our peppernuts in. The Estate Christmas Banquet was very delicious and there was a great turn-out. During the past month we saw many talented singers perform. There was Christmas in Inman with lots of activities and also the play at the Ele-mentary school “Father Knows Best” that several attend-ed. Finally we made wreath crafts and had a retirement party for Cyndi Ratzlaff. She will be missed greatly by all. We have lots of fun activities going on in January: 2nd Tuesday Estates Program, Nail Day, Feet Day, Soup Supper, Crafts, and a couple Movie/Popcorn Days along with our regular schedule of activities for you all to en-joy and attend...As always look for flyers and signups. As the cold weather gets underway, please be sure to stay warm and safe. We have a TV Chapel Schedule in Phase 3 for those not wanting to get out on Sunday’s due to weather. Please take advantage of this. Take Out Tuesday—Make sure you signup and pay before 5pm on Mon-day if you want food for Tuesday at 6pm. If the weather gets too bad, we will cancel. That decision will be made on Monday by noon so that you will have time to order from the kitchen or make other arrangements. All mon-ies will be refunded if there is a cancellation. As always I would love to hear what you love to do. Have a very Safe and Happy New Year, Jennifer Wilson Estates Activities

Happy 2017 everyone!! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with family and friends. With all the get-togethers and parties out of the way, its time to start think-ing about those New Years Resolutions and how to stick to them. The easy part is mak-ing the resolution, it’s the sticking to and making them a permanent part of your life. Below are 7 tips by Andrea Metcalf, CPT to help you do just that… What gets measured, matters. Make your healthy new year resolution clear and meas-urable. If you want to eat better in the new year, instead of making the general statement, “I am going to eat healthier”, change that to, “I am going to eat at least five servings of fruits or vegetables daily. “ This gives you a way to “check the box” and stay on track. Instead of saying, “I want to get in better shape”, set weekly goals on minutes of move-ment. Track them and you’re more likely to stick to your exercise plan. Aim to perform 140 minutes of exercise each week (30 minutes daily). When you see it in print, it’s real. Writing down your healthy new year resolution is important for many reasons. There is a chemical reaction in your brain when you see and say things you want to achieve than when you just think them to yourself, according to a study reported on NPR.org. Try keeping a small note pad or journal and write it in there on the first page. Type it into your “notes” app on your smartphone, or post something on your bathroom mirror or refrigerator. Embrace the goal and seek achievement. Make the time. With busy lives, time management may be what’s holding you back from success. Make time in your schedule to meet your goals. Don’t just say you will exercise today, figure out the exact time you have to get it done, (ie. Monday 6 a.m. or Wednesday 4:00-4:30 p.m.). Put it into your calendar or smartphone with reminders that pop up one hour or 15 minutes before. If you’ll need to pack workout clothe to take to the office, set a reminder to pop up in the morning so you won’t forget. Get support. Fitness experts tend to find that, anecdotally, 8 out of 10 people succeed in a group program. Most fail on their own. You’re more likely to keep your healthy new year resolutions on track when you have friends, family or co-workers supporting you. These days, this can mean virtual support as well. Using social media and social media groups can be very effective in changing attitudes and behaviors. It can also be the difference when you’re falling off track to keeping you in the game. Someone that knows you’re aiming for a change and is hitting some of the same obstacles may have a solution for success that you haven’t tried or thought of yourself. If you don’t have a fitness buddy IRL, look to apps that have robust communities, like MyFitnessPal, Spark-People.com, DietBet.com, or Challengeloop.com. Work smarter, Not harder. Whether you’re trying to lose weight or stop smoking, getting expert advice in the be-ginning works better than thinking you know it all and can achieve your goal on your accord. From making workouts specifically designed for your lifestyle and preferences, to understanding how the brain works when making changes, hiring professionals to help you is money well spent—especially in the long run for any health improvement goal. No assets appreciate like good healthy eating and exercise.

Who’s New? Who’s Old?

Ecclesiastes 1:9 That which has been is what will be; that which is done

is what will be done; and there is nothing new under the sun. Revelation 21:4, 5

God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying….Then He who sat on the throne said,

“Behold, I make all things new.” Occasionally we meet an acquaintance, asking them, “How’s it going?” only to hear the response, “Oh, you know…same ol’, same ol’.” By that their comment, they mean to say, “Life stays the same; nothing is chang-ing. Not being said, “Life is boring; life is a drag.” Yes, life can be mo-notonous; it is up to the individual to make life “come alive!” Could this be the reason some people become addicted to a drug or to alcohol? Yes, no doubt some with addictions resort to these “soothing” elements to help them in life. Bible-reading Christians are also aware of another Scripture, which says, “I make all things new.” These words were spo-ken by the Lord and have pointed reference to the wonderful changes in Heaven, which will be the experience of all the redeemed. I would like to remind the reader that the Lord has already made certain things new in his life when He trusted in the Savior, for example, a new eternal home, a new resident in him – the Holy Spirit, a new love – for the Lord, and His Word, and a few goal in life – to please Him, and to proclaim the Good News of Salvation. As we enter the new year of 2017, let’s focus on the news things possible because of Christ’s indwelling presence. Every Thursday evening at 6:30 P.M. a chapel service is held for the spiritual benefits of Pleasant View Home residents; and we are consist-ently blessed with the fine meditations from God’s Word for these occa-sions. Ministering in chapel in January will be Mr. Ralph Vogel on Janu-ary 5, Pastor Willmar Harder of the Buhler Mennonite Church on Janu-ary 12, yours truly on January 19, and representatives from Zoar Men-nonite Church on January 26. Since the last issue of Pleasant View News, Mr. Gary Burr (November 29), Mr. Leonard Marteney, an Estate resident (December 7), Mr. Donald Mauer, an Estate resident (December 17), and Mrs. Galen Nightengale (December 22) have passed on to receive their eternal reward. How won-derful for the ministries of Pleasant View Home and Pleasant Hills (in Hutchinson) that the Good News of Christ Jesus is proclaimed, offering hope and comfort to all.
