Most Memorable Project The Adaire in Tysons. As one of our tallest local projects (35 stories plus a rooftop), the building’s height and curved football-type shape, required complex lateral analysis to ensure lateral force (i.e., wind and/or seismic) resistance.

Why Structural Engineering? It’s challenging and never boring. Every project is a different puzzle to solve.

Why do you like working with architects? They pose the challenges and puzzles that we then get to solve. I also enjoy human interaction—I would not enjoy a profession without it.

Notable Past Projects• Capital Press Bldg. (301 N St.) Structural probe• 1550 Wilson Blvd. – Mezzanine floor expansion• AVA Van Ness Renovations

Why Structural Engineering? Growing up spending time at my father’s automotive workshop fiddling with machines, I knew my career had to be in core engineering, working with tangible objects in lieu of abstract software development. However, later, during my undergraduate studies, I realized my aptitude for engineering mechanics, dynamics and structural analysis was best suited for structural instead of mechanical engineering and I jumped into the world of buildings!

Why do you like working with architects & owner’s reps? Being an engineer, primarily concerned with a project’s stability and economy, it is very easy to miss the aesthetic appearance perspective. This perspective is brought to the table by architects and owner’s representatives on the team and they keep our inner geeks in control—helping us to come up with most creative eye pleasing solutions!
