Customer: Bridge Farm - BarcombeA recent project completed at Barcombe in East Sussex, where we constructed a building with the potential for up to 11 agricultural specification units. Liaising with a local ground worker we managed to

complete the project within the time constraints required. Upon completion the building was fully let out within weeks allowing our client an excellent and rapid return on their investment.

BRIDGE FARM

COMPLETED PROJECTS

We are currently constructing a 300ft long livestock building located at the base of the South Downs. This building is part of a larger project being undertaken by our client to enable them to future proof their farm and business.

The building will allow the pass through of up to 500 head of cattle and, with the stock being all under one roof, the time and management of animals will be greatly reduced therefore improving farm efficiency.

NEW LIVESTOCK BUILDING IN THE SOUTH DOWNS

On a bright sunny Sunday morning in Studland, Martin and I took part in a Beginners’ Kayak Course. Our instructor, Benny, has a great sense of humour and made everyone feel welcome and relaxed from the start. Benny has a wealth of knowledge that he willingly imparts in a friendly, encouraging manner.

After initial safety and technique instruction we were on our way towards Old Harry Rocks. During that paddle, Benny spent time with individuals to ensure their paddle techniques were corrected. This was done whilst he still kept an overview of the group. By doing so everyone

was able to get the most out of the day.

Having stopped at Old Harry for lunch, we made our way along the coast, paddling in and out of bays and caves. All through the paddle, Benny was informing us of the local fauna and flora and giving us an awareness of the changing sea conditions. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the day.

On the way home we tried to think of what negatives there were, but we couldn’t think of one thing. Two days later we still can’t think of any negatives. Will definitely be buying a kayak!Helen’s K

Customer: Goring Gap Boat Club - Berkshire Scorpion Buildings are currently working on a new boathouse for Goring Gap Boat Club, Lower Basildon, Pangbourne, Berkshire. After many months of negotiations and planning the site works have now started. The unique design by Mick Waite Architect and Structural Engineering by Matthew Crowder HAC LLP has been modelled by Scorpion’s in-house Tekla Design Team. The 56-tonne structural frame, fabricated by our state of the art fabrication facility, Core Steel in Hereford, is galvanised and ready to be delivered to site. Specialist road vehicles will allow transport to the site, which presents some challenging access problems. The civil works, involving many tonnes of earth works and tens of metric cubes of concrete to form the foundations are currently in progress, albeit slightly delayed by the recent cold snap. The erection of the structural

frame is due to commence in January 2018.

The boathouse has been designed with a curved steel roof to receive

a meadow grass ‘green roof’ to merge with the landscape, when Phase

2 of the project begins.

The project had to overcome many complex planning, environmental and

historical considerations. Timber slatted walls and doors allow water to

flow through the structure in times of flood. The design had to co-exist

with and encourage further growth of protected animal and plant habitats.

It has sustainable ‘green’ solutions to all services, power, water etc.

We would like to wish Goring Gap Boat Club and its members all the

very best wishes for the future in their new facility on the banks of the

River Thames.

Our Christmas Party!Marlborough’s The Lamb Inn, a traditional coaching inn dating back to 1672, was the venue for this year’s Christmas party on Friday 15th December. Plenty of fun was had on the day with excellent food and high spirits. The ladies were decked out in fine apparel competing for the best Christmas accessory.

I finally got to do a track day at Thruxton!

Originally I was going to do it for my 35th Birthday, but then I fell pregnant & had to spend the money on a more practical car, so my Husband treated me for my 40th Birthday last year. I had an amazing time driving a Porsche Cayman & could easily become addicted to it as the sense of satisfaction you get when you get a “perfect” lap is brilliant!

I was lucky enough to have a really nice instructor that let me have an extra lap so I was the last one in, also they’d cashed up by the time I ordered my photo so I got a freebie. I’d recommend it to anyone with an interest in cars & have already requested another track day for my 50th!!

Newbury Show 2017

Scorpion Buildings attended the Royal County of Berkshire Show on the 16th & 17th September at the Newbury Show Ground, in Berkshire. Despite adverse weather predictions, the sun shone and it was a good turn out all round; from the visitors, exhibitors and competitors. It was a bonus that our Scorpion Buildings stand was located near the Cattle Building and Arena; the building was constructed by us for the Newbury & District Showground in 2015.

Happy 50th Birthday SueSue celebrated her 50th birthday on 28th September 2017, bringing in a lovely assortment of cakes. On 3rd December Sue will be looking forward to a pampering Spa Day at Vineyard in Newbury with her gift token kindly contributed by all.Sue Whinnett – Accounts Clerk
