NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION - What are ways you can make a difference this

school year?

As a parent, you were your child’s first teacher. Even when your child is in school you still teach important lessons every day. Here are a few suggestions where you can make a difference:

1. Read to your child every day. Long after children learn to read for them-

selves, they love this special time and children who are read to are the children who want to read on their own.

2. Join the Parent-School Council. Everyone benefits when we work together.

3. Volunteer – The more help parents give teachers, the more time teachers can

spend with students. Work full-time? There are still many ways you can help.

4. Let your children know that school is important. Ask about homework, sign student agendas, attend school events and talk about how you use what you learned in school in your job.

5. Recognize your child’s special gifts. Each child has special talents. Perhaps the most important thing you can do is to help your child see how she or he is special. That boosts confidence – and sets the stage for learning.

SANTA’S WORKSHOP: The night was a huge success! The children that came into Santa’s Workshop were able to buy a wide variety of items. We were able to raise $405.00 that we donated to the Salvation Army. If you received gift

bags over the holidays and plan on recycling them please consider sending them with your child to school as we will gladly like to re-use them. You can drop off any unwanted Christmas bags at the office. Thanks for your incredible

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL SUPERVISION: The registra-

tion forms for this program are available outside the main school office doors. Due to government staffing guidelines, we remind all parent/guardians that parents unable to book for the entire month must register before noon on the previous Wednesday of the week

you wish to register for and we will accept registrations only if space is available.

As of this month, our program is fully booked. You may add your name to the wait list and we will contact you as spots become available.

Please contact Mrs. Nickel for more information.

STUDENT INFORMATION UPDATES: Parents are asked to please let us know if there are any changes to your child’s information concerning addresses,

phone numbers or emergency contact information.

LUNCH PROGRAM: Lunch Order Forms are sent home each MONDAY. We ask that they be returned, with exact payment, on Friday morning. This facilitates proper planning and acquisi-tion of food supplies by Mrs. Nickel. We cannot guarantee delivery of service for late returns, incomplete orders, improper payments and/or special requests. If we are to continue the level of service at such a reasonable cost, we truly do need everyone’s cooperation.

We are pleased to offer this extra service to parents, but please be advised that students who do not behave appropriately may lose the privilege of having lunch at school.

We are asking parents to limit the amount of microwav-able foods that are being sent for lunch. Due to the limited amount of microwaves we can use at one time, students are using much of their lunch break standing and waiting in line. If at all possible, please avoid sending items that need to be ‘cooked’ rather than warmed up. Please remember that we do not supply forks and spoons for food brought from home.

After reading the bulletin with your student please return this portion for our monthly draw. (Draw box in hallway out-

side of the office).

My child(ren),

in Grade(s) A / B / C, and I have read the

TRIBES 4 AGREEMENTS

In order to help our students to be even more successful in school, greater emphasis has been placed on provid-ing an even safer and more caring culture in which stu-dents feel they are an integral part of the learning com-munity. Ross Glen School utilizes the following 4 Tribes Learning Community Agreements daily to help support such a culture:

Appreciation (No Put Downs)

Attentive Listening

Mutual Respect

Right to Pass / Participation

WINTER IS HERE: Students should come to school appropriately dressed for the season. Children are expected to be outdoors before school, recess and at noon hour and need to come prepared.

I will be kind and responsible and follow every rule.

I will show self-control, discipline, courtesy and respect.

I will treat others with kindness,

the way I would expect to be treated.

SCHOOL BUS

SAFETY:

This month we want to remind you how to stay safe around school buses. You might not realize that school bus drivers have a hard time seeing people and ob-jects that are very close to the bus. You might think that because if you can see the bus, the driver must be able to see you, but that is not true. If you are too close to the bus, the driver cannot see you, and that is why the area close to a bus is called the danger zone. Remember to stay at least three meters away from the front and back of a school bus at all times. If you are getting onto the bus, stand in line with oth-ers and listen for instructions. Also, when you are getting off the bus, listen to the driver and always watch for vehicles.

So remember…school bus drivers are al-ways watching for students, but you have to help them by staying away from the danger zones, and that means staying at least three meters away from the front and back of the bus at all times, and no driving into or through the school parking lots

ROSS GLEN SCHOOL CHOIR:

Ross Glen School Choir has opened its doors to many enthusiastic singers. Our goals, for each member of the choir, are to develop an appreci-ation of various types of music, to develop good listening and vocal skills, and to realize the en-joyment of fellow musicians.

Rehearsals are scheduled every WEDNESDAY at 12:10 p.m. If your child has not attended this year, they are still welcome to do so. We look forward to an exciting and fun filled year sharing the beauty of music with your child.
