Blake’s Prairie Bombers 4-H Club by Diana Herbers

The Blake's Prairie Bombers held their December meeting on Sunday, December 16th. There were 41 members present. It was our Christmas gift exchange. So, we played the left- right game where our club leader read a story and every time she said "left" or "right", we passed our gift in that direction. Everyone ended with a gift. Our next club meeting will be January 27, 2019 at 7:00 pm.

We met on December 1st for our end of the year Christmas party. We started it off by Christmas caroling at Orchard Manor nursing home. We had a pizza party and short meeting following in the South Room at the fairgrounds. We discussed details for upcoming meetings in 2019 and awards were handed out to club members that weren't able to make awards night back in November. Our club also was selected for the Meritorious Award by the 4H Leaders Association-great job Buddies for your efforts and contributions to our communities! We ended the day with roller skating, pop, and popcorn in Dubuque at Skate Country. A lot of fun was had by everyone!

The kids purchased a lot of nice gifts and will make any people happy this Christmas. We will be attending a Saints Hockey game in January and all members are looking forward to it. We had our Christmas party and a surprised visit from Santa. We were able to tell Santa what we wanted for Christmas and each received a candy bar from him. We also sang songs. Announcements

YQCA Update The Livestock Auction Committee has updated their requirements to sell an animal in the Grant County Fair Jr. Livestock Auction, Saturday of the Fair. This year ALL swine exhibitors and any exhibitor wishing to sell in the auction must be YQCA certified.

The first Instructor-Led Training will be Saturday, January 19 at 8:30 am at the Pioneer Farm. This will be part of 4-H Super Saturday we are co-hosting with Lafayette County

More Instructor-Led Trainings will be listed in your February ECHO.

This interactive program provides youth a number of options for an annual quality assurance certification. YQCA was created for youth in the Beef, Dairy, Goat, Poultry, Rabbit, Sheep, and Swine projects. This program gives families more flexibility in acquiring this much needed information which trains youth in improving the care of food animals and promoting a higher level of consumer food safety. The livestock industry and businesses are constantly striving for high quality, wholesome products; therefore, youth in food animal projects should assist in this effort.

Please go to https://yqca.learngrow.io/Account/Login in order to register for either online or instructor led courses. Registration is required prior to attending an Instructor-Led training. If you are a 4-H member, please log in through the 4hOnline system on the left. If you are an FFA member or other organization affiliate, please sign in through the independent system on the right. You will create an account followed by either completing a sign up for an instructor led meeting or online/web based modules. Upon signing up for a course, you will then pay for that course with a credit card. Please email [email protected] for any assistance you need in creating or signing up in the YQCA system.

Two types of YQCA training will be available in Grant County:

Instructor-Led Training ($3.00/youth)

This type of training will take about 1.5 hours. You MUST pre-register prior to attending the training. No cash payments will be accepted at the door. Those who do not register for the training will not be able to enter the training.

Online Training ($12.00/youth) This type of training is at your own pace.

Contact Grant County UW-Extension Office if you have questions or concerns about payment.

Reminder: Wisconsin State Fair and other national exhibitions will require certification in YQCA for participation for 2019 events and beyond.

Continue to monitor the Wisconsin YQCA website for helpful information: https://fyi.uwex.edu/youthlivestock/yqca/

Main Leaders: Remember to approve members in wi.4honline. If

you have questions on how to do this, please contact the UW-

Extension Office.

Can you hear the BEAT? What BEAT? ArtBEAT! What BEAT? ArtBEAT! It is time to start

thinking about and planning to participate in our 2019 WI 4-H ArtBEAT!

4-H ArtBEAT! was created for 4-H members in grades 3-5 and their parents and leaders and is the introductory program for Wisconsin 4-H Arts and Communication! ArtBEAT! will be held March 15 through 17, 2019, at Upham Woods in Wisconsin Dells. The weekend will feature a look at a variety of arts projects including music, drama, visual arts, and more! Camp check-in begins Friday, March 15 at 6:30 pm and runs through Sunday, March 17 at 11:00 am.

4-H members will have the opportunity to explore their own creativity while discovering a variety of 4-H Arts & Communication experiences available to them now and in the near future. Session lead-ers will be 4-H older youth, adult leaders and 4-H staff members with a wealth of experience to share. Youth and adult participants will rotate through a variety of sessions, which are hands-on and active and held at various sites throughout camp. Along with exploring the “arts,” participants will also have a chance to discover Upham Woods! Both youth and adult participants stay in the warm and cozy heated cabins!

The $100.00 per person fee (youth and adults) will include all materials and supplies (including a very cool ArtBEAT! backpack), overnight lodging, meals and snacks.

REGISTER EARLY! This camp fills up fast and registration is first come, first serve! Registration will open in 4H Online on December 20, 2018 and will close on January 31, 2019.
