IONEDUCATION NEWS - LETTER January 2020 - Issue 45 NAAC, NBA accredita"on must for engineering colleges The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has asked all its affiliated colleges to get accredita"on by the Na"onal Assessment and Accredita"on Council (NAAC). The accreditaon process will serve dual purpose, said officials. It will help improve the quality of education imparted in engineering colleges across the State and also enable VTU to idenfy good engineering colleges. More o"en than not, a large number of seats go vacant. Colleges with good infrastructure and teaching faculty will receive good rangs and can a$ract more students. A senior official of the VTU pointed out while colleges are ge&ng accreditaon from the Naonal Board of Accreditaon (NBA), which is mandatory, many are not applying for NAAC despite direcons from the All India Council of Technical Educaon (AICTE) and the University Grants Commission (UGC). A circular in this regard was issued on November 4 direcng all its affiliated colleges to apply for NAAC accreditaon. “Accreditaon from NBA is mandatory for all programmes offered in your instute. Further, the VTU also strongly recommends that instuonal level accreditaon be obtained from NAAC,” the circular read. Heads of engineering colleges also pointed out that obtaining accreditaon from these two agencies was a posive development and said that based on these rangs, instuons could get autonomy, deemed-to-be-university status and also funding from different sources. “Ge&ng a good NAAC

NAAC, NBA accredita on must for engineeringcolleges

The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has asked all its affiliatedcolleges to get accredita on by the Na onal Assessment and Accredita onCouncil (NAAC).
