Glare during
black-and-
white
operation
Outdoor IR-LED dome
* Glare during black-and-white mode (IR-
LED) operation
* No abnormality during color operation in
daytime or nighttime
* Occurs only when camera is in black-
and-white/IR-LED mode Inappropriate camera position
* Move the camera position and find a view angle
that does not reflect the IR-LED.

Glare during
black-and-
white
operation
Outdoor IR-LED dome
It can be determined that incident light
from above the lens is affecting the image
because the glare is comparatively strong
near the bottom of the image (but may be
the opposite for models with an image
reversing feature)
Bright light generated from a light
source (fluorescent lamp) installed
under nearby eaves being reflected
onto the image
* Change the installation location and/or angle so
that the light does not affect the image
* Consider a light shield so that the light from the
source does not shine directly on the lens
* Adjust the maximum exposure time and adjust
camera sensitivity on the camera settings screen
*Consider operating with “Auto1” or “Auto3
(SCC)” that does not use IR-LED because there is
light in the surroundings
3
Affected by
nearby
objects
Indoor dome -
* No abnormality while light is on (during
color operation)
* Glare occurs only when the camera is in
black-and-white/IR-LED mode with the
ceiling light off
* A white-colored sensor is nearby
Because a flame detector is positioned
near the IR-LED irradiation opening of
the camera, the infrared light issued
from the camera is reflected by the
flame detector, and is incident on the
camera
* Confirm that there are no reflective items near
the camera before installing
* If installation is already complete, separate from
the reflective object as much as possible
4
Reflection
from a wall
surface
Indoor dome -
* No abnormality while the ceiling light is
on (color operation)
* Glare occurs only when the camera is in
black-and-white/IR-LED mode with the
ceiling light off
* Installed in a ceiling corner adjacent to a
white wall
Caused by infrared light from the
camera reflecting off a wall (shaded
area) incident to the camera
* Install away from walls
* Try decreasing the “maximum exposure time” in
the camera settings
* Try decreasing the IR-LED intensity in the same
manner
* Change the view angle

5
Affected by
glare from
rain gutters
(vinyl straps,
etc.)
Outdoor box -
* No problem during color mode in
daytime and occurs only at night (when
using IR)
* Outdoor use
* Adjacent to a wall, rain gutter, or other
object
* The IR-LED light is affected by
reflected light off of vinyl straps that are
tightly wound about a nearby rain gutter
* Check the installation location and view angle so
that gutters and vinyl straps do not affect the
image
* Remove the rain gutter or vinyl straps
6
Image that
looks like
fog
Outdoor dome
* The image appears as if the entire
screen is covered in fog
* The problem occurs during IR-LED
mode
A condensation-like spray coats the
clear dome surface because the
camera is used in an environment
where fog-like spray occurs, and the
image is improved by removing the
clear dome
* Relocated to a place where the spray has no
effect
* Use a camera with a wiper or a housing
* Wipe the dome frequently
7
IR-LED
reflection off
of reflective
roadside
plates
Outdoor box
* No abnormality during color operation in
daytime or nighttime
* Poles installed for monitoring mountain
slopes, no streetlights in the surrounding
area
* Likely to occur with the camera in black-
and-white/IR-LED mode during dark
nights without any moonlight
* Incident light from the lower part may
be affecting the lens because a strong
glare is visible in the upper part of the
image
* Bright reflective plates captured on the
bottom of the image are most likely the
cause
Because the environment is very dark without any
outside lighting nearby, the effect is conspicuous
because of overlapping factors such as the iris
being nearly fully open and the electronic
sensitivity being near maximum, and sensitivity
being high due to improved sensor performance
On days with moonlight or when there are
automobile lights, the glare is reduced or
eliminated because the iris constricts and
sensitivity is reduced automatically
8Glare from
spider websOutdoor box -
* White shadows appear on the left and
right of the image
* No outdoor obstacles or lighting for
monitoring rivers
* The surrounding area is rural and poles
are installed
* Glare occurs only at night with black-
and-white/IR-LED mode
* Spider webs within the view angle in
front of the camera are reflecting IR-
LED light
* Clean periodically
* Remove the spider webs
Light from the left side may be affecting the
lens since a strong glare is visible on the
right side of the image.
Light from the lower part may be
affecting the lens since a strong
glare is visible in the upper part of
the image.

(Camera installed on the ceiling,

When night shooting with IR-LED, be
aware that reflected light may be seen
in captured images if the ceiling is close
to the camera installed on the wall, or
the wall is close to the camera installed
on the ceiling.
Keep 3 meters (9.84-ft) or more of the distance
between the fixation position of the camera and
ceiling or wall.

the image
depending
on the setup
or the using
condition
PTZ Camera
(Outdoor/IR-LED)
(While shooting with the zoom ratio set to
"Wide")
The image may have some shadows:
- when shooting during the nighttime
- with the IR LED on
- with the camera mounted on the
ceiling at the tilt angle of elevation of
30° (from the horizontal line)
- when shooting the subjects close to
the camera
- with the zoom ratio set to "Wide"
The shadows can be reduced by:
- adjusting the zoom ratio to the “Tele” side
- setting the tilt angle to the horizontal line

<Reference>
IR-LED lighting disperses in a wide angle. In general, because infrared light has low directionality, it disperses not only in front of the lens but also in a range of approximately 180-deg. in the horizontal and vertical
directions from the light source. When glare occurs, check for reflective objects in this range
