Dear Parishioners and Visitors, Jesus began his public ministry with the call: 'Repent and Believe the Good News'. Who was this call to repentance addressed to? While it was directed to sinners in the first place, it was in fact di-rected at everyone, even the good. In fact, Jesus had more trouble with the good people than with sinners! The so called good people did not see any need of conversion. Sinners who openly admit-ted they were sinners did not cause Jesus much trouble. To answer the call to repentance one must feel a dissatisfaction with oneself, and have a longing for something better. There must be a sense that something is wrong, or at least that something is missing. The conversion experience begins with the realization that we are not what we could and should be. This realization is the first step of a process, the first step of a journey. We tend to think of repentance as feeling guilty, but it is really a change of mind or direction, seeing things from a different perspective. Once we begin to see things rightly, we will probably feel bad about having been wrong for so long, but repentance starts with the new vision rather than the guilt feeling. Repent means turning away from your sins and turning back to God. We turn our back on our sins and face God instead. Repentance means a radical change, a new mind set, a new attitude towards God. Belief makes it possible to live confidently in the midst of difficulty. Belief makes it possible for us to step out into the darkness, certain that God will give us sure footing. Repentance and faith, or belief, go together in the Scripture. We can't repent without believing, and you can't believe without repent-ing. They are like two sides of the same coin, and you can't have one without the other. “Follow me" was the invitation. Jesus does not offer a road map, an itinerary, or a destination. This is not the type of journey you can prepare for. God's call is always into an uncertain future. When we enter into our callings we have no idea how it will all end up. We never get anywhere new as long as we are unwilling to leave where we are. We accept Jesus' invitation to follow not by packing up, but by letting go. "Follow Me" is both an invitation and the promise of new life. What are the nets that entangle us? What do we need to let go of and leave behind so that we might follow Him? God Bless you all. Fr. Antony Vadakara
