Construyendo hogares de paz Si queremos construir un hogar de paz, invitemos a Dios para que sea el centro y base de nuestras familias. Dios, quien es el amor mismo, nos creó por amor y para amar. El amor es el mensaje central de la misión creadora y salvadora de Dios quien nos creó para que vivamos plenamente felices. Por ello, nuestro Señor Jesucristo nos dio el gran mandamiento que los comprende a todos: amar a Dios sobre todas las cosas y el prójimo como a ti mismo. Toda persona humana nace en el seno de una familia y como bien nos enseñaron el Beato Juan Pablo II como el Papa Benedicto XVI, la familia es la primera escuela donde se aprende a amar, una comunidad de personas hecha para amar y para preservar, suscitar, motivar, vivir y realizar el amor. Por tal razón la Exhortación Apostólica del Beato Juan Pablo II, Familiaris Consortio claramente nos dice que “la familia recibe la misión de custodiar, revelar y comunicar el amor, como reflejo vivo y participación real del amor de Dios por la humanidad y del amor de Cristo Señor por la Iglesia su esposa” (FC 17). Es también el seno de la familia la escuela donde se aprenden los valores cristianos y humanos. Por tanto “[l]a familia, en cuanto es y debe ser siempre comunión y comunidad de personas, encuentra en el amor la fuente y el estímulo incesante para acoger, respetar y promover a cada uno de sus miembros en la altísima dignidad de personas, esto es, de imágenes vivientes de Dios” (FC 22). Cada persona tiene una dignidad altísima e inviolable por ser creación e imagen de Dios. Por ello, la familia está llamada a ser el lugar de seguridad y paz donde la persona humana puede abrirse, ser acogida, apreciada sin juicios, sin presiones, sin desprecios. La familia es justamente el lugar donde la dignidad de cada persona debe ser respetada y promovida, pues si no respetamos la dignidad y el valor cada persona en el seno de nuestras familias, la persona se desarrolla llena de inseguridades, complejos, sin autoestima, y llena de vacíos, rencores y resentimientos que socaban el amor y pueden llevarla hasta la violencia. Por ello es tan importante que cada miembro de la familia sea respetado verbal, emocional, sexual y físicamente. La falta de respeto, los insultos, las críticas destructivas, los gritos, los abusos físicos, emocionales, sexuales y verbales en el hogar destruyen la dignidad y la autoestima de la persona, ya sea el padre o la madre, o los hijos por más pequeños que estos sean. El hogar donde reina la violencia en todas sus manifestaciones es como un infierno en la Tierra que destruye la felicidad, la paz y la armonía y por tanto está vacío de Dios. Muchas veces la violencia llega también a causa de los vicios y las adicciones que destruyen no solo la persona presa de ellas sino a toda la familia, adicciones en las que muchas veces se cae precisamente por estos vacíos y heridas en el corazón de la persona. Debemos fomentar el amor en las familias, el amor que viene de Dios y es Dios mismo. Si queremos construir un hogar de paz, invitemos a Dios para que sea el centro y base de nuestras familias. Compartamos en familia la Palabra de Dios que nos enseña de su amor y su bondad, alimentémonos de la Eucaristía, la presencia misma de Dios en nuestra vida, busquemos tener una relación íntima, personal y real con nuestro Señor y enseñemos a nuestros hijos a hacer lo mismo. Solo así podremos aprender a amar como Dios ama y tratarnos los unos a los otros con verdadero respeto y amor. La violencia doméstica manifiesta la falta de amor en la persona y por ende, en el hogar. Mas el amor que viene de Dios es el preventivo para toda evitar la violencia futura y el antídoto para contrarrestar el veneno de la violencia y el desamor en las familias. Construye tu hogar sobre la roca, que es nuestro Señor Jesucristo, ámalos y enséñales a amar como él nos ama, así evitarás la violencia en tu hogar y construirás para ti y los tuyos ¡un hogar de paz!

Liturgy of the Word for Children Children’s Liturgy is actually the Liturgy of
the Word for children. There is no preregistration required. We cover the
Gospel of the day at a level the children can understand and enjoy. We enrich this with
discussion, prayers, songs and plays. We also try to raise awareness of God’s
love, the humanity of Jesus, the Seasons of the Church, the understanding of symbols in the Mass and the context of the Bible. Our
aim is to make the children’s experience of church meaningful, whilst helping them to grow in the faith of the Catholic Church
and develop as full and active members of our Parish Community. During the 9:30 am Mass and before the Liturgy of the Word,
Father Bloom invites children up to the sanctuary. The children will receive a blessing from Father and then process to their
classroom. After Children’s Liturgy, the children will process to the main vestibule and quietly return to their families. Note: At
least two students will be chosen to bring up the gifts. Thank you for your continued prayers and support during this ministry; It is a blessing to watch these little disciples grow in their faith while
lifting up Jesus and loving others.
Read Sunday’s Gospel: Matthew 5:1-12a Gospel Summary The beatitudes are the content of this Gospel and they begin what we commonly call, “The Sermon on the Mount.” Jesus’ words surely turned upside down the understanding his listeners had of the world and society. Jesus told them that the poor would be rich, the hungry would be filled, and the persecuted would be rewarded. In all, there are eight statements that give the people a new understanding of Moses’ law and a clearer image of God’s Kingdom. Reflection for Families Living the beatitudes is nothing new for parents. We often set our needs and desires aside in order to care for others, especially our children. Our greatest challenge, however, is to be a living witness to the first beatitude. If we understand and live out being “poor in spirit,” the rest falls into place. For to be “poor in spirit,” we rely completely on God. We know what the present situation holds, but recognize that there is a greater glory to come in God’s Kingdom. Bringing the Gospel into Your Family Make a list of some (or all eight) of the beatitudes described in today’s Gospel. In words every family member can understand, give an interpretation of each beatitude’s meaning. Go through a family photo album and point out how people in your immediate and extended family live out these beatitudes.

First Sacraments is a two year program? According to the Archdiocesan guidelines, children preparing to celebrate First Sacraments must be enrolled in either a Catholic school or the parish’s religious education, Generations of Faith both during the year of preparation as well as the year immediately prior to preparation. “Make no mistake, abortion-on-demand is not a right granted by the Constitution. No serious scholar, including one
disposed to agree with the Court's result, has argued that the framers of the Constitution intended to create such a right. Shortly
after the Roe v. Wade decision, Professor John Hart Ely, now Dean of Stanford Law School, wrote that the opinion "is not constitutional law
and gives almost no sense of an obligation to try to be." Nowhere do the plain words of the Constitution even hint at a "right" so
sweeping as to permit abortion up to the time the child is ready to be born. Yet that is what the Court ruled. As an act of "raw judicial

Comfort for the Afflicted. That all those who are afflicted, especially the poor, refugees, and marginalized, may find welcome and comfort in our com-munities.
How you Help others by donating to SVdP Part Two--Who We Help--- When you donate to SVdP you make it possible for us to help people in need throughout our parish boundaries. Here are the stories of a few
people your donations helped on Friday the 13th. For these people Friday, January 13th was a good day. We have three teams of volunteers that work different geographical areas. These stories come from the Downtown Monroe Team. The first family helped on this afternoon was a family of five that had just moved from being homeless into a Housing Hope apartment. Two of their three children attend Frank Wagner Elementary. If I understood the husband correctly, his family recently immigrated from Armenia. All the money they had had was spent while they were homeless. They had no furniture or household items, but the husband has a job and does not expect to need continuing help. The wife, who spoke very little English, was very grateful for the food basket we brought and with help from her husband understanding the labels took all the food we brought. Through our visit we were able to set them up, with no cost to us, three beds for the children through the Children's Bed Program that the SVdP store funds with their sales. We also wrote a voucher to the SVdP store so that they could purchase furniture, clothing, pots and pans, and kitchen items. Our next visit was to the Monroe Gospel Women's Mission, a "safe, caring haven for homeless women looking for a temporary place to stay". We wrote a voucher for gasoline for one of the residents. After that, we returned to the Housing Hope apartments to help a recently divorced, mother of a three year old. Her son needed a bed and he was very excited about our visit and his new bed, which would also come from the Children's Bed Program at no cost to us. The mother chose some food from our basket. We wrote a voucher to the SVdP store for a mattress for the mother, bedding, a small table and a dresser. We also recommended that she check out Buy Nothing Monroe, a facebook group with free furniture. The last person we helped was a homeless lady in her 50s. She was desperate to get help as soon as possible. She had been cooking on a campfire and wanted a propane stove and propane. When we met she was sporting a new, warm hat and gloves that had been given to her by the SVdP store. We wrote her a voucher for some snow pants that she had seen while at the SVdP store, a voucher for food, hygiene items and dog food from Grocery Outlet, and from Fred Meyer we picked up a one burner propane stove, small propane bottles, batteries and paper plates. Because you help by donating to SVdP, we were able to help these people in our community. For these people Friday the 13th was a very lucky day.
