Generations of Faith 2016-2017
Generations of Faith is St. Mary’s “all generation” religious education. Please join us to share a free family meal followed by our
theme of the year, The Creed and Professing our Faith catechesis. 2016-2017 Sessions
1/25/17 2/22/17 3/22/17 4/26/17
Child care available at all sessions.
Orange registration forms are available in the north vestibule for the 2016-2017 school year.
Please complete one form for your whole family.
Liturgy of the Word for Children Children’s Liturgy is actually the Liturgy of
the Word for children. There is no preregistration required. We cover the
Gospel of the day at a level the children can understand and enjoy. We enrich this with
discussion, prayers, songs and plays. We also try to raise awareness of God’s
love, the humanity of Jesus, the Seasons of the Church, the understanding of symbols in the Mass and the context of the Bible. Our
aim is to make the children’s experience of church meaningful, whilst helping them to grow in the faith of the Catholic Church
and develop as full and active members of our Parish Community. During the 9:30 am Mass and before the Liturgy of the Word,
Father Bloom invites children up to the sanctuary. The children will receive a blessing from Father and then process to their
classroom. After Children’s Liturgy, the children will process to the main vestibule and quietly return to their families. Note: At
least two students will be chosen to bring up the gifts. Thank you for your continued prayers and support during this ministry; It is a blessing to watch these little disciples grow in their faith while
lifting up Jesus and loving others.
Read Sunday’s Gospel: Matthew 2:1-12 Gospel Summary The magi from the East came to Jerusalem and asked where the child who was King of the Jews might be found. Herod was concerned about this birth, and as a result had worked up the total population of Jerusalem as well. To the magi, he acted as though he wanted, like them, to go and worship this child. He asked the magi to figure out where the child was and then come and tell him after they had found the child. Of course, we know that in his heart, Herod only wanted to destroy Jesus. And we also know that nothing can be hidden from God, who knew Herod’s heart. God sent an angel to the magi in a dream and told them to go home a different way and avoid Herod. Reflection for Families Children love this story because it’s filled with things they treasure: gifts, adventure, danger, mystery. Through these elements, Matthew has made it clear that the magi are foreigners—from the Gentile world in Matthew’s day. It is reassuring for us to know and to help our children come to understand that God welcomes all people of the world to the family of God. By our Baptism, we are part of a family of faith, and as parents we spend our lives leading our children in that faith and demonstrating to them how we live our own faith. Bringing the Gospel into Your Family There are many people, opportunities, and circumstances that guide our families. Using black construction paper and yellow star cut-outs, create a constellation using a shape that symbolizes your family. Give each star the name of a person in your family and family’s history. Label the stars with the traits and gifts of each person.

Life: An “Epiphany” of God
“Life is always a good. … Why is life a good? This question is found
everywhere in the Bible, and from the very first pages it receives a powerful and amazing answer. The life which God gives man is quite different from the life of all other living creatures, inasmuch as man, although formed from the dust of the earth (cf. Gen 2:7, 3:19; Job
34:15; Ps 103:14; 104:29), is a manifestation of God in the world, a sign of his presence, a trace of his glory (cf. Gen 1:26-27; Ps 8:6). This
is what Saint Irenaeus of Lyons wanted to emphasize in his
celebrated definition: ‘Man, living man, is the glory of God’. Man has been given a sublime dignity, based on the intimate bond which unites him to his Creator: in man there shines forth a reflection of
God himself” (The Gospel of Life, n. 34).

We are so blessed to have such a generous parish. We fed about 40 people at Take the Next Step on Dec. 20. The staff from Take the Next Step were so very grateful for our support. That is all of you who signed up and brought main dishes, salads, desserts to the Covenant
Church on South Sams that evening. We would like to thank our helpers that night too: Jan and Chris Kloeck, Cathy Ortiz, Sandy Sullivan, Evelyne Robertson, Diana Bizak, Lisa and Duane Thomas, Kelly Darling, Jim Bloss, and Traci Adams. St. Vincent de Paul hope to be able to help Take the Next Step out in the spring, we hope we can count on the parish's help then too! God bless every one of you! We are looking for new members of St Vincent de Paul. We could use another team to help to the east of our parish. We could do we dedicated donations for our work, and associate members.
