exhibitions family special events guest events regular events

Our journey continues… while Paisley ultimately didn’t win the accolade of UK City of Culture 2021, we did win new friends and self belief. Our programme sees us welcome an exciting creative mix of singers, bands, theatre makers, dance artists and comedians from the local area and further afield.

National icon The Monarch of the Glen by Sir Edwin Landseer will be on display at Paisley Museum as part of a four-stop tour supported by National Galleries Scotland. Ballet West will return to Paisley Town Hall with their performance of Giselle ou les Wills. The Scottish Alternative Music Awards will stage a takeover of Paisley Arts Centre. We continue to develop opportunities for children and young people with the Inspired exhibition, the Puppet Animation Festival, and of course we are very proud to host

the fourth annual John Byrne Drawing Competition for Scottish schools. We welcome the success story of the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe, (More) Moira Monologues, and many of the best productions in contemporary touring theatre.

We’re inspired by the fantastic creative people we welcome to our venues, we hope you enjoy the show.

Inspired is the annual exhibition of artwork from children and young people in schools and nurseries across Renfrewshire. The Monarch of the GlenPaisley Museum

FREE

The Monarch of the Glen by Sir Edwin Landseer (1802-73) will go on display at Paisley Museum as part of a four-stop tour supported by the National Galleries of Scotland.

The painting is one of the most famous images associated with Scotland. Through its widespread use in commercial advertising and popular culture, the picture has become instantly recognisable yet it remains an extremely powerful work of art and a rich source of debate about issues of history and identity.

This iconic painting, which was acquired after a four month fundraising campaign, will go on display at Paisley, Inverness, Perth and Kirkcudbright. It forms part of the National Galleries’ on-going commitment to sharing its collection and working in partnership with communities across Scotland.

The event will also see a number of extra activities hosted by Paisley Museum around the exhibition.

Organised by the National Galleries of Scotland, with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Arts Fund and the Scottish Government.

WokeBy Apphia Campbell and Meredith Yarbrough

Paisley Arts Centre 7.30pm

£10 (£6 conc) + bkg fee*

From the creator of the hit show Black Is the Color of My Voice comes a new story about the 20th-century African-American experience. Against a powerful soundtrack of original music and traditional gospel and blues sung live, two women 42 years apart become involved in the struggle for civil rights. Both challenge the American justice system, become criminalized through political activism, and ultimately are faced with the same choice: stay and fight, or flee?

Woke won the coveted Scotsman Fringe First Award for its premiere season, and was highly commended by the judges of the Amnesty Freedom of Expression Award.
