Happy New Year! Welcome 2017! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with family and friends. January is a busy month in preschool. This month we will talk all about our newest season: Winter! We will discuss what things can we only do in the winter and not during the other seasons. Also, we will learn about all types of animals that love cold weather, like a polar bear and snow foxes. We will continue learning our letters, shapes, and colors this month, but our main focus will be the letters U, V, and W, a rectangle, and the color WHITE! We will continue to recognize and spell our first names and begin adding last names this month.

We are working very hard to stay healthy in the new year, so we will spend a lot of time learning about what germs are and how to prevent illnesses, such as doing a lot of hand washing! I hope the children will enjoy the “sneeze bottle” lesson as much as Miss Cecily and I do. One way of keeping healthy in addition to washing hands is to stay active, so we will continue outside play as mush as possible should the temperature and real feel stay above 33º. Please send your child in with all weather appropriate clothing including, hats, gloves, and scarves. This is also a good time to check the clothes in your child's cubby for weather and size appropriate clothes.

To take a break from all the cold and snow I have a fun unit planned to learn about the Rain Forest, such as what it is like and what types of animals can only be found there. At the end of the month is everybody’s favorite day, PAJAMA DAY!!! We are looking forward to a fun and exciting month!

Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a fun filled holiday and are well rested. We have a lot planned for this month; the most important thing is that homework will start as soon as we get back. Each child will receive a homework folder at the beginning of each week. In it will be a homework sheet that the children will complete and bring back at the end of the week. After completing 10 homework sheets, they will get to go to our prize box. Any questions or concerns please feel free to see us. Miss Jeni and I will be doing conferences this month, so keep a look out for more information.

During the month we will be discussing winter animals, such as the polar bear, arctic fox, penguins, and the moose. We will look at pictures of them; discuss what they eat, and what they like to do for fun in the snow. We will also talk about different sports that we can do in the winter like skiing, skating, and sledding. Do you want to be a snowman? We do and we will by using marshmallows and icing. At the end of the month, we will celebrate the winter season with a Pajama Party. Keep an eye out for more information.

Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for the generous gifts. We truly appreciate them and loved them all. Happy New Years and here's to a fun filled one.

We finished with our holiday cheer, rang in the New Year, and

now we will begin a new month with new adventures! We will be talking about winter animals, along with patterns of

migration and hibernation. For animal projects the children will make penguins out of paper plates and fluffy polar bears out of shaving cream and tissue paper. Fingerprint worms and winter windows will be projects for the letter W. Volcanoes, vacuums, unicycle, and, oh yeah, underwear are other projects. Martin Luther King Day will be celebrated by stamping doves of peace. Our Chinese New Year craft will be a dragon made out of rectangles, which is the 'shape' of the month. For Pajama Day, we will be painting with ice cubes.

In our class I found two silly holidays the class might enjoy. The first is Winnie-the-Pooh Day. The second is Popcorn Day, where we will be making caramel popcorn. Our school-cooking project this month is marshmallow snowmen. On White Day, we are going to make our own snow dough, then mold it into whatever each child wants. Mr. Steve has picked out the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom as a special fun day with the children. Along with the story, he has a special project to do with the children. Our bulletin board will be "Winter Wonderland".

Let us all continue the warmth and love of the holiday season throughout the New Year.

Happy New Year! Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. Now that

January is here and break is over, we must get back to work. This month is a cold winter month so we will discuss winter sports and winter animals. We will also have a nice, warm, comfy and cozy PJ Day this month! On January 19th it is Popcorn Day, we will make a project out of popcorn and also have popcorn for snack. The letters we will talk about this month are U, V, and W and the numbers are 9 and 10. White will be our color day and a rectangle is the shape for January. Some books we will read this month are Snow Dog, Go Dog by Deborah Heiligman, The Hat by Jan Brett, and Ten Shiny Snowflakes by Russell Julian.

Keep an eye out for homework folders to come home this month. Each child will receive a homework folder at the beginning of each week. In it will be a homework sheet that the children will complete and bring back at the end of the week. After 10 homework sheets are completed, they will get to go to our prize box. Any questions or concerns please feel free to see me. Miss Nina and I are excited to start off 2017 with a busy and fun filled month!

Happy New Year to all and happy winter! We hope you all enjoyed the holiday season with your families and are ready to get back to some more Kindergarten fun!

During the month of January, we will be very busy learning our sight words, of course, and we will be reading more frequently in class as well. Letter blends will also be focused on during Language Arts. During Math, we will be learning subtraction, and we will continue to review all concepts that we have learned so far.

Now that the winter season is in full swing, we will be discussing all of the fun activities that we can do during the winter months, such as skiing, sledding, ice skating, and snowshoeing, among others. We will discuss who in our classes have tried these activities, and who would like to try something new! Of course, we have some adorable crafts that we will making, so make sure you watch for them to be lining the halls soon! One of our favorite winter stories, Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner, will be just one of the fun books we will be reading this month. Afterward, we will be doing some fun activities related to the story.

During Science time for the month of January, we will be learning the differences between the Arctic and Antarctic regions. We will discuss where these two regions are located and we will learn about many of the animals that live there. We will be referring to www.coolantarctica.com for some valuable information. Feel free to check it out! During Social Studies time, we will be learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and we will be making a special class project to honor him.

Our “Show-n-Tell” and color day for this month will be on Wednesday, January 11th. Please dress in white and bring in a white Show-n-Tell. Maybe we will get lucky and it will snow a little bit for white day! Another special event for January is Pajama Day! We will actually be wearing our PJ's for two days, Tuesday, January 24th, and Wednesday, January 25th. We will be watching a short movie on one of these days as well. For a special treat this month, we will be making yummy marshmallow snowmen!

On a final note, we would like to thank all of our students and their families for your holiday wishes and thoughtful gifts. We really appreciate all that you have done for us! We are looking forward to a wonderful 2017! Thanks again!
