As I begin my term as your President, I would like totake this opportunity to thankyou for being a member ofHouston BOMA. We are arobust association with agreat track record of advoca-cy, leadership, and volun-teerism. I am excited and priv-ileged to continue this legacy.

Every year, the boardmeets and strategizes for theupcoming year. This year’smeeting was highly produc-tive, and many great ideaswere developed that will beput into action in 2012. Theboard’s goals are based onthe core fundamentals thatwill give Houston BOMA themost relevance and value tothe commercial real estateindustry in the upcoming year. These tenets are leadershipon advocacy, education, andprofessional development.

My theme for 2012 is“Keep BOMA Fun andRelevant”. If we’re not havingfun at what we’re doing andwe’re not relevant, then wewill soon be extinct. You’ll seethose changes coming aboutin our 2012 strategic plan.

Without a doubt, 2012 isthe year to become activelyengaged in BOMA and ourgoal is to solicit more involve-ment from our property managers. This is vital toensure that Houston BOMAremains relevant to the needs of the commercial real estate industry. I implore

you to step up and give backto the association that doesso much for you. I am livingproof that active participationin BOMA pays off in yourcareer development and creates opportunity for growthand advancement.

At the same time, weunderstand that everyone’stime is valuable—possiblymore so than ever before.Companies are doing morewith less, which means greatdemands for your time. Tofacilitate the involvement ofeven the busiest members,we are making our commit-tees more streamlined andefficient by incorporating technology, as well as meet-ing only when necessary. Byemploying these strategies,we hope to make your involve-ment easy and rewarding.

For 2012 we have re-vamped our young profession-als program and created anew leadership developmentprogram. We understand thatour young professionals arethe future of BOMA, and wantto invest in our future lead-ers. If you have less than ten years in the business, check out this unique oppor-tunity. We are even givingaway money to travel toBOMA conventions to learnmore about the organization.

We are also investing inthe future of the industry bydeveloping an MCE coursespecifically designed for

property management. We’rebeefing up our educationalofferings and again will behosting our medical realestate summit that was such a success in 2012.

While education and pro-fessional development arevital to remaining relevant, we recognize that our mem-bers want and need network-ing opportunities. Our goal isto provide you with meaning-ful and unique opportunitiesto build relationships. Onesuch example of this is ournew Business Exchange Eventwhich will be held on February9th. Described as “speed dating” for businesses, it issure to be a hit. We’ll also be bringing back the BOMABAC PAC Sporting ClaysShooting Tournament, whichwas a great success in its inaugural year.

Reflecting on where we’vebeen, it is impossible not to feel great excitement forwhere we are headed. 2012promises to be an outstand-ing year. We have a veryambitious plan for the year, and I, along with a very dedicated Board of Directorsand staff, are eager to get it accomplished. Thank you all for your continued supportof Houston BOMA, and I look forward to working with each of you towards a very successful, fun and relevant 2012. ■
