Formerly the Imperial capital of Japan for more than one thousand years, Kyoto is known as the thousand-year capital. It has a population close to 1.5 million. The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto (MoMAK), exhibits exemplary Japanese and international contemporary works, with a particular focus on the Kansai region and Kyoto, allowing visitors an unrivaled insight into modern perspectives of Japan’s old capital. In 1984, Fumihiko Maki, a professor from Tokyo University designed the new structure of the Museum. The total area of the Museum is nearly 10,000 square meters with the area of exhibition is more than 2,000 square meters
