The Buzz in Biz Possibly one of the most frustrating things in the business world is when someone strings together buzzwords and phrases into a seemingly coherent thought that upon further inspection says very little, if anything at all. We’ve all been there, out of ideas, yet sitting in silence seems like it wouldn’t be very productive at all. There’s nothing wrong with spinning these elaborate turns of phrase, as long as you realize you’re not actually providing meaningful direction, you’re merely providing an active pause for others to bring something to the conversation. Buzzwords and jargon are simply a part of the business world. It’s easy to abuse these catchy expressions and get a little lost in your own web of buzz. So, it’s important to recognize the difference between using them to provide direction or further a conversation, and using them to provide an active pause. In the case of the latter especially, be ready and accepting of the inevitable follow-up questions and discussions. And most importantly when you do have something to say, don’t let your message get lost in the buzz. Speaking plainly can do wonders for comprehension of your ideas.
