Ligation and Stripping

Surgical procedure for the treatment of varicose veins

Ligation is the tying off of the vein

Stripping is the removal of the varicose vein

Can be performed in a hospital or outpatient surgical center

Stress Testing

Diagnostic test used to evaluate cardiovascular health

Patients walk, run, pedal a bicycle, or take a medication to make the heart work harder

EKG, oxygen, & blood pressure are monitored during the test

Imaging stress tests show blood flowing in heart muscle & are more accurate

Other names for the test: exercise test, treadmill test

Doppler Ultrasound

Painless diagnostic test that gives very quick feedback to the physician

Bounces sound waves off of organs and tissues to produce an image

Used to observe heart contraction, valve function, blood volume passing through the heart or arteries

Also detects blood clots and deep vein thromboses
