01 SPRING 2012 - PERCEPTUAL DRAWING: FACE TO A NAME | charcoal on paper | 19’’ x 24’’
A self portrait with special attention to change in value in planes of the body.
02 FALL 2012 - DIGITAL IMAGING: “TABOO” | adobe illustrator | 11’’ x 17’’
is informational poster explains the number 4 as being taboo in Korea. Minimal illustration is used because the keypoint is in the simple ip of the number 4. e form of the 4 turned on its side in junction with the heart beat line eectively teaches the meaning of the taboo number 4.
03 SPRING 2012 - PERCEPTUAL DRAWING: “SHELTER” | charcoal on paper | 19’’ x 24’’
rough the use of objects, this is a representational self portrait. e umbrella acts as both keeping light in and darkness out of the home/family, creating a push and pull composition. e high contrast reects the mood of abandonment.
04 FALL 2012 - TYPOGRAPHY: MENU DESIGN | adobe illustrator | 17’’ x 8’’is menu board combines the interests of the restaurant owners with those of the customers. e restaurant owners desired a premium look that could be easily read and understood by customers. While staying minimal and clean, a key point to address was the question “What is the dierence between sushi types?” in a non-oensive and educational way.
05 SPRING 2012 - VISUAL METHODS & PROCESSES | adobe illustrator | 6’’ x 6.5’’
is is a mock invitation to the late Alexander McQueen’s runway show that was inspired by Alice in Wonderland. e dark colors and play on words give this invitation a Tim Burton-esque feel. It is also interactive where the invitee pulls down a tab to reveal the time, date and place, in addition to nd the end the eery poetic blurb. is shi also changes the look of the outside layer.
06 FALL 2012 - TYPOGRAPHY: PACKAGING | adobe illustrator / photoshop | 2’’ x 8’’ x 1.5”e new pop art-inspired design is kept clean with an intentional restriction on overwhelming variety of color that one would see in works true to the pop art era. Rosie the Riveter and the colors red, white and blue are pertinent to conveying the current war state of America. e goal is not only to increase prot but to also gain the patriotic support for the war.
07 SPRING 2013 - PRINTMAKING FIGURE/GROUND: | ink on paper | 22’’ x 15’’Collaborative work. Each student randomly chose a previously etched plate by another student and transformed his/her plate into aquarter section of a face. e group umbrella concept dealt with time and aging. Each plate holds a person, place and thing. e plateI created is the top right corner. Instead of eliminating previous student’s work, I took advantage of the lines to create a detailed section.
08 FALL 2012 - TYPOGRAPHY: VISUAL ACRONYM | adobe illustrator | 6’’ x 4’’“I miss you”. Missing someone always involves distance so the bridge was chosen as the suitable symbol. From point “I” to “U”, there is a gurative or physical bridge that must be crossed. is design was put onto postcards (outside of class) because the postcard’s association with keeping in touch despite distance. Scenery or an aspect specic to the location was minimally illustrated.

09 SPRING 2012 - “ASCEND” | paper / duct tape / wire | 2’6’’ x 5‘6’’Collaborative work with Ana Curta (Neuroscience Major). Inspired by Curta’s research, this dress depicts both the pain of a chronic migraine (the black mass) and the hope that a solution or treatment can be found (upper, white bust area and single crane on shoulder). e paper crane was used because of its double form: elegant on an indiviual scale and overwhelmingly spiky in a mass.
10 FALL 2012 - TYPOGRAPHY: MOVIE POSTER | adobe illustrator | 17’’ x 11’’is movie poster combines the layout of an instruction manual and the movie poster hierarchy. It shows the twisted psychology of the two murderers in Hitchcock’s movie, “Rope”. e instructions written carry a double meaning, essentially showing how to strangle someone. e tie was used because its symbolism with superiority/authority.
11 FALL 2012 - GRAVITY & BUOYANCY | wooden boards / toothpicks | 4’’ x 20’’ x 8’’e assignment given was to create a sculptural piece that demonstrates the relationship of light and heavy. e seemingly lighter and weaker object (toothpick) was simply multiplied in quantity to support the heavier objects (wooden boards). In this way, the prenotionthat heavier objects support lighter objects was inverted in a visually dynamic way.
12 FALL 2012 - TYPOGRAPHY 1: E-BOOK | adobe illustrator / photoshop | 8.5’’ x 11’’
is e-book is a compilation of reading responses done spanning one semester. A playful yet serious tone is displayed throughout, withmonotone colors accompanied by the pop of blue. e cover reects the writing style - conversational and personal.
