Vacation Bible School –What Can I Do?
Unless you are reading this online, you are likely already present for our morn-
ing service. We are actually kicking off VBS this morning with special classes for
our children and also our sermon this morning will analyze the great heroine of
faith named Esther. What can you do from here until Wednesday night to help sup-
port our VBS??? First, as a member, be here each night. There is plenty of work to
be done and a place for everyone to be involved. If you are not helping there is a
class for you, even if you are an adult. As a matter of fact, each night the adult class
will be led by one of our talented men in a study of the same hero of faith the young
folks are studying. The schedule looks like this: Sunday night: Jaylon Williams
(Joseph), Monday night: Skip McCurry (Moses), Tuesday night: Mike Dickinson
(Samson) and Wednesday night: Tim Shoemaker (Noah). The other obvious thing
you can do to help support our VBS is share the news with a family member,
neighbor, or coworker and invite them and their children to be our guests. A long
time ago, I was told a story about how one person became a Christian later in life
because they had been taken to VBS by their neighbor when they were a child. The
seed of the Gospel and good will toward the church was sown during that visit to
the local church’s VBS! Finally, pray that our efforts will be successful to teach,
inspire, and promote the church here at Roebuck Parkway!
Study Your Bible
Last week I was reading and studying for my own personal benefit (sometimes
it’s hard for a preacher to do that without thinking about how to incorporate what
he’s studying into a sermon). But as I studied a difficult topic, I was reminded
about the importance of making sure that we don’t always accept what we’ve al-
ways been told is true. It is certainly possible for humans to get away from the true
teaching of God’s word and start teaching their own doctrines, as Jesus plainly
taught (Matt. 15:9). Therefore, we should always do as the Bereans and “search the
Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11).

SPECIAL FOOD DRIVE Our next food drive will be
held NEXT Sunday, June 8th. Once again, we are asking for the generos-
ity of our members as we seek to replenish the shelves. Any and all non-perishable food items will be accepted. There will be drop-off points at the office foyer, the upstairs/balcony foyer, and hallway by room 108. Church members will be
available at each site for ease of donation. Thank you for your continued support of the
Loaves & Fishes ministry. No one should ever go hungry.
Spiritual Security As faith supplies virtue so virtue supplies knowl-edge. The importance of knowledge in anything cannot be overestimated and this is certainly so in regard to spiritual security. Without knowledge there is the con-stant danger of going astray from the way of God. Reli-gious activity without knowledge invites calamity. The nation of Israel abounded with sin during the time of the prophet Hosea. The people were unkind and unfaithful. They were guilty of swearing, lying, killing, stealing and committing adultery. How was that possi-ble? Israel was the chosen nation of God. God had blessed them in so many ways but especially in giving them His law to guide them. The problem of sin came about because of a lack of knowledge of God’s word. Hosea pled with the people telling them, “Hear the word of the LORD, You children of Israel, For the LORD brings a charge against the inhabitants of the land: "There is no truth or mercy Or knowledge of God in the land” (Hosea 4:1). To not know God’s law, God’s will for us, is to live in great danger of destruction. Sometimes we hear someone say, “What you don’t know won’t hurt you” but that is clearly false. A lack of knowledge can hurt you; it can kill you. For example, a lack of knowledge that the bridge is out may kill the un-suspecting driver. For years people smoked tobacco without knowing the dangers of it. Their lack of knowl-edge led to the death of thousands. God spoke through Hosea and said, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). Israel’s priests were told that they had “forgotten the law of your God” (Hosea 4:6). The priests and the prophets had failed to teach the people the word of God. To avoid such destruction, to have spiritual secu-rity, we must know the word of God. Jesus spoke to some of the Jews who believed in Him and told them, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (Jn. 8:32). Those believing Jews were not yet free and would not be until they knew the truth and obeyed it. Paul understood that the Jews of his time were people who were very zealous for God. They were willing to suffer and even die but Paul said that their zeal, great that it was, was without knowledge. “Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not ac-cording to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the right-eousness of God” (Rom. 10:1-3). The fact that Paul prayed that they might be saved is evidence that they were not at that time. Why? Because their lack of knowl-edge of God’s will had led them to seek to establish their own righteousness rather that to submit to God’s righteousness.

DISHES We are in the process of cleaning out the clutter in the kitchen. We
have an abundance of dishes that have been accumulating in the kitchen over the past six months. They have been
placed on a table just outside the large fellowship hall. Please go by & see if any
of these dishes are yours.
We express our sympathy to Freida Gallagher & Family at the passing of her aunt, Anna Murphe.
