SWING 42-HOT CLUB OF COLUMBIA features Richard Maxwell-gypsy jazz guitar, Jerry Sims-gypsy jazz guitar and Greek bouzouki, Bryson Borgstedt-clarinet, Justin Sims-drums, James Gibson-upright bass and The Jackson Sisters String Quartet (Sarah Jackson-cello, Jill Jackson Holt-viola, Courtney Jackson-violin, and Amy Jackson-violin.) Eventually everything old is new again. If you survey today’s music scene you will observe a fusion of music happening. Elements of rock, blues, jazz and ethnic folk music are being combined in a variety of ways. When jazz was blooming, classically trained musicians such as Stephane Grappelli were inflecting jazz music with their classical heritage. Likewise Django Reinhardt was infusing traditional folk music from the gypsy camps in France into jazz. Swing 42 fuses classically trained musicians with jazz musicians to create hot club jazz. www.swing42hotclub.comMIKE FROST JAZZ QUARTET featuring LAUREN MECCIA—A former student of jazz legends Pat Martino and Jaco Pastorius, Mike Frost is a life-long composer, studio musician and educator. He is currently an instructor at the University of South Carolina/Aiken and has toured with Jesse Colin Young, as well as guitarist Esteban. This three-decade music educator is well known for the unique quality of sound that he produces on his Clifford Roi six string basses. Lauren Meccia-saxophone, vocals and EWI (Electric Wind Instrument) is active in Jazz and Concert music, Lauren also performs with several South Carolina ensembles including the Palmetto Concert Band. She is the soprano saxophonist of the award-winning Assembly Saxophone Quartet, who will be performing at the 2012 World Saxophone Congress in St. Andrews, Scotland. Lauren is the director of instrumental ensembles at the University of South Carolina/Aiken. David and his band have performed at well over 1,000 of Charleston’s top events since 1983. David is the owner of Archer Music Service. Markus Helander (Helsinki, Finland)-drums. Markus studied music at the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki and the Musicians Institute, Los Angeles. He was also a percussionist for the Swedish National Theater in Helsinki and most recently toured the fusion band PHG (Pelle Holmberg Group) in Sweden. David Keller (Savannah GA), bass-David attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston. He is a native of Philly, and has toured with musicians as diverse as Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown and Pat Martino.

BN’ THERE with ROBERT GIBBS & BRIAN MANN — Mainly known as a jazz guitarist, Robert Gibbs has also performed with country artists such as Hank Williams Jr. and R&B artists such as The Drifters. He is also a passionate music instructor and owner of Gibbs Guitars in Sumter. Keyboardist, Brian Mann is fluent in many styles of music including rock, blues, reggae and jazz. The First Chord Book for Seven String Guitar written by Sims has been published by Mel Bay Publications. Additionally, he has co-written arrangements for a joint project between Mel Bay and Warner Bros., entitled Fingerstyle Jazz. Richard Maxwell (guitar.) His articles, transcriptions and music engraving work have appeared in Just Jazz Guitar magazine and Mel Bay books. Most recently Maxwell transcribed works for the Mel Bay book Bucky Pizzarelli Master Jazz Guitar. He has performed with jazz guitarists such as Bucky Pizzarelli and Jimmy Bruno. Bryson Borgstedt (clarinet, flute & saxophone) was a member of the United States Military Academy Band Jazz Knights at West Point, taught briefly at USC’s music department and was the director of jazz and saxophone instructor at Claflin University for five years.
