All articles for the week have been assigned in your child's Newsela account. To access your Newsela account go to Clever from the Students Tab on the JBM Homepage. **Any activities that have a graphic organizer or sheet that could be filled in can be found in your Google Classroom! This will also allow your
teacher to view your work and talk with you about it.

ELA Social Studies Quarantine Recess
Reflect on the changes you’ve experienced due to the pandemic. What has changed in your day-to-day life? *Type your answer in Google Classroom.
1. Read Mealworm macaroni? Chefs turn bugs into tasty dishes.
2. Fill in the Yuck or Yum? TV Commercial Planning document in your Google Classroom.
3. Write out a script for a commercial to convince or persuade others to try Mealworm macaroni in your Google Classroom.

4. Write a one paragraph summary, at the bottom of the Venn diagram, about the two snacks.

Teach Kids to Save Day! Enjoy a magical video lesson with The Great Investo as he reads the new book "The Great Investo and the Astounding, Abounding, Compounding Machine. Fill in the information on the slide in Google Classroom if you want!
What is your role in the Nation’s response to the pandemic? *Type your answer in Google Classroom.
1. Create a list of recipes you know how to make.
2. Select your favorite to create your own “How To” piece on Google Classroom.

ELA Graded Assignment
Article 1 Can I take your order? Food-making robots finding a seat at the kitchen table (Newsela) Article 2 Robots revolutionizing the making of pizza pies (Newsela) After reading about how robots are being used in the food industry, develop a fiction story using a robot as one of the main characters in Google Classroom.
If Delaware had a state snack, what do you think it would be? Why? Write one paragraph defending your opinion in Google Classroom.

Now, Use a Sharpie, (or a thin black marker) to outline these new letters and ERASE the guide letters inside!
STEP 5
· Create a dripping paint effect: On the tops of your letters, it’s just a “bubble” shape that goes around the
tops. On the BOTTOM is where you can get creative and play with the length of your drip shapes.
· Do this in pencil first, THEN pen!
STEP 6
· Use a pencil and a ruler to draw horizontal parallel lines to start a brick wall behind your letters, above AND
below. (This can get tricky on the bottom where you will have to lift your pencil a lot to skip over the drip effect!) Use alternating vertical lines to create the individual bricks and Sharpie over your wall when you’re happy with it.
STEP 7:
· Use TWO color pencils for your letters:
· One color fades from the top down, the other color fades from the bottom up.
· You can leave the center of your letters white, OR allow the two colors to overlap a bit in the middle.
Tips for successful blending:
· Press harder where you want your color darker, and lighter as you start to fade.
· Layer your color pencil work in multiple directions for the smoothest look.
STEP 8:
Next, use a regular pencil to shade around your “drip border”.
· Press Harder close to the letters, and lighter as you move away from the letters.
· It is helpful to use your finger to soften and blend this shading work!
· Also, add a little emphasis to the edges and corners of your bricks--- it will help them look more 3D!

managing stress because I know it’s very stressful sometimes since we all have to practice social
