The Jasper County Veterans Memorial Commission will be constructing two new veterans’ memorials which will be
placed on the courthouse lawn. The first will serve as a memo-rial to all Jasper County vets and will be placed on the east side of
the courthouse. It will be a ten ton stone on a 15x15 pedestal and will be painted with military themed murals. The second memorial will be located on the south side of the courthouse next to the current veteran’s memorial. It will hold over 350 bricks engraved with names in honor or memory of local veterans. Any Jasper County veteran who lived in the county when they joined, lives in the county currently, or is now serving active duty is eligible to have their name placed on a brick. A copy of your DD214 or honorable discharge papers will be required along with your application. The bricks will cost $100.00 each. The bricks will hold three lines with 15 letters/spaces on each line.
(Inclusion in this project does not automatically qualify participants as veterans as defined under Iowa Code chapter 35)
Applications will be accepted until 4pm on November 8th, 2013. Due to the logistics of the process, no applications will be accepted after that.
We plan to unveil the new monuments on July 4th, 2014.

In fact, in many low-income neighborhoods, broadband adoption rates are only around 15 to 20 percent, while in upper income communities, broadband penetration rates are as high as 90 percent. With 30 percent of the U.S. still without broadband Internet service at home, far too many continue to miss out on all the terrific resources the Internet can deliver. To help bridge this digital divide in
America, programs such as Comcast’s Internet Essentials have been developed. Offering families with at least one child eligible for the National School Lunch Program in-home Internet for less than $10 a month; computers for less than $150; and free digital literacy training online, in print or in person, it’s the largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption program in the country. In less than two years, Internet Essentials has connected 220,000 families-approximately 900,000 low-income Americans-to the power of the Internet.

Tips On Saving Water In Style(NAPSA)-Any time of year can be the right time to look for ways to conserve water. The good news is that water-saving strategies can benefit both the environment and your wallet. To help, here are some tips. • A good place to start is turning off the water while you are brushing your teeth, shaving, washing your hands, doing dishes, or any other tasks where you usually let the water run. • Use a bucket to catch the cold water that comes out of the faucet or shower while you are waiting for the
hot water to heat up. You can put the water you captured to use watering your plants or pouring it into your toilet reservoir. • Installing low-flow shower-heads and fau-cets can be a low-tech, low-maintenance way to save water. • Check your plumb-ing for leaks, espe-cially leaking toilets and faucets. Fix anything you find leaking. A silent toilet leak could waste from 30 to 500 gallons every day. • Install faucets designed to save wa-ter. For example, the German manufacturer Blanco is known for
finely crafted sinks and faucets that offer what it calls “liveable style.”Said Tim Maicher, an executive with the com-pany, “When we say liveable style, we are referencing style that leads trends while inte-grating into any kitchen design.” According to Maicher, the company engineers faucets to last, use less water and be as easy to use as they are to maintain.
