discoveryour independence

For several incredible weeks each summer, life takes a different path. A cabin is called home, friends become family, and caring, experienced staff is nearby to guide and support you.

This is your place. You belong here. Top bunk or bottom? Cabin life is really cool and so much fun. Share late night stories and games, gather around the campfire for s’mores, and shhh!!! you may even join your counselors for a sneak-out after lights-out. Wake up with your cabin mates in time for a hearty group breakfast in the dining hall before getting organized to start your day.

Without even realizing it, through cabin life, you’re learning the importance of responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect. And that’s pretty cool, too!

createlifelong friendshipsYou know that special connection you feel texting your buddies? Or posting a comment on a friend’s wall that says, “Hey, here’s what I’m up to, what’s up with you?”

From the moment you step off the bus at JCC Camp Chi, that same special feeling of connection and community begins. Worried you won’t know anyone? Hardly. Before you know it, you will have made friends for life.

At JCC Camp Chi, a world opens up where kids can be themselves, try new things, follow their passions and thrive. New friendships are made out of smiles and laughter. Friendships are renewed with hugs and high-fives.

Each camper fits in and belongs at JCC Camp Chi. The experience, the friendships, the memories.

JCC Camp Chi is not just for a summer, it’s for a lifetime.

celebrateJewish heritage

Come on! Join the celebration! At no time is Chi ruach (spirit) more evident, than each week when JCC Camp Chi celebrates Shabbat. Guitar chords fill the air and the whole camp comes together with a camper-led service under the stars in our outdoor amphitheater with music, food and fun.

We offer a wonderful, informal setting for kids to experience Jewish life. Whether saying blessings before dinner, participating in a mitzvah project or exploring the culture of Israel in our own Israeli Village, campers are given the opportunity to find meaning and joy in being Jewish. You’ll learn from shlichim, Israeli counselors, who will share the spirit of Israel with you. You’ll take home incredible memories, pride in your Jewish identity and a feeling of community. That’s what truly sets us apart. And that’s why . . .

Kids get so much more out of summer at JCC Camp Chi.

Ron LevinDirector

This summer will be Ron’s 33rd year at Chi. He, his wife and three daughters have become the fabric of the Camp Chi family culture. Ron has a B.S. in Physical Education and a Master’s in Social Work from Arizona State University. He has managed day camps and sports camps, and began his overnight camping career directing the Phoenix JCC resident camp in the late 1970’s.

Brad Finkel Associate Director

There are kids that never want to leave camp, and Brad is one of them. In fact, this will be Brad’s 25th summer at Chi. After many summers as a camper, counselor, Assistant Director and now Associate Director, Brad uses his undergraduate degrees from Indiana University in Jewish Studies, Telecommunications, Psychology, Business and Hebrew plus his Master’s degree from Spertus University to keep camp fun and running smoothly.

Jamie LakeAssistant Director

As a camper, Jamie started counting down the days until next summer as soon as she got home from camp. After 25 summers at camps, Jamie still cannot wait for camp to begin. Her career began as a camper at a girl’s resident camp in Wisconsin, where she later became a counselor, wilderness trip leader, program director, head counselor, and finally year-round assistant director. She has a law degree and a Master’s degree in education administration. This will be her 7th summer as Assistant Director at Camp Chi.

Lisa SheridanProgram Coordinator

When Lisa first learned about Camp Chi 15 years ago, she could have never imagined the impact it would have on her life. Today, after a journey as a camper, SIT, staff member, village leader and summer program director, Lisa credits Camp Chi for helping her gain independence and courage, meet her best friends and develop a sense of Jewish identity. Lisa graduated from the University of Wisconsin—Madison with degrees in Political Science, Legal Studies and Consumer Science.

Page 26: JCC Camp Chi Brochure

Where is JCC Camp Chi located?JCC Camp Chi is located on 600 acres of pristine woods and waterfront in Lake Delton, Wisconsin, in the Wisconsin Dells. The property is private, non-visible from roadways and set well apart from its surrounding neighbors. The camp’s exciting location lets kids experience some of the best fun and adventure available in the area.

What is JCC Camp Chi’s philosophy? Our camp philosophy is deeply rooted in Jewish values and traditions that have guided and enriched the Jewish community for generations. We place a strong emphasis upon character education.

How is camp structured by gender & age?Boys and girls live in separate gender and age-specific groupings of cabins known as villages. Each village consists of a circle of 4–6 cabins, a washhouse and a fire circle for evening campfires.

What do the cabins look like? All of the cabins at JCC Camp Chi are similar wooden buildings with bunk beds. The counselors have their own room in the cabins separated from the campers’ space by a curtain.

Can I request that my child be in a cabin with his or her friends? We will be happy to accommodate up to two friendship requests as long as mutual friendship requests have been made.

What kind of food is served? We serve three nutritious and kid-friendly meals each day. Selections may include hamburgers, tacos, chicken nuggets, spaghetti, french fries, and pizza. A variety of fruit, baked goods and hot cereal is available to start the day; a salad bar is available at lunch and dinner. Peanut butter and jelly, as well as vegetarian options, are available at every meal.

How will my child’s special dietary or medical needs be accommodated? We work hard to accommodate many special dietary and medical requests. Please contact us prior to registering to discuss your child’s needs.

What if my child becomes ill or has an accident while at camp?Your child’s health and safety is our first priority. Our air conditioned Health Center is open 24 hours a day and is staffed by a resident physician and nurses. In the unlikely event that it is needed, emergency medical treatment is also available at a nearby hospital. All campers complete medical history forms, which are maintained on site.

How do you select and train your staff? To add to the richness of the camp experience, we hire staff from around the world to create an environment of global diversity and cultural interest. All staff are personally screened and selected to ensure our highest standards are met.

How can my child benefit from JCC’s Jewish content?Jewish traditions guide and enrich the JCC Camp Chi summer experience. Campers enjoy special Shabbat celebrations and Israel education programs. While we find joy in our Jewish identity, we welcome everyone from all backgrounds.

How does JCC Camp Chi celebrate Shabbat?Every Friday evening, campers attend Shabbat Services together under the stars in our outdoor amphitheater. Campers lead the service with the help of great guitar players and song leaders.

Does JCC Camp Chi offer financial assistance?Fee assistance is available based on demonstrated need. Please contact us at 847.763.3551 for more information and application information.

When should we register for next summer? We encourage you to register as early as possible to ensure that you have a space reserved in your desired group and session. It is easy to register online at campchi.com/register. We are also happy to take your registration by phone.
