LEGEND
SKILLS-While students are exposed to professional lawyering skills in courses throughout the curriculum, these particular classes offer
substantial instruction in professional skills generally regarded as necessary for effective and responsible participation in the legal
profession. These courses also engage students in skills performances that are assessed by the professor. All J.D. students must complete
at least two credits of designated skills courses in order to graduate.
PER ELEC- These elective classes examine perspectives on the Law and Justice. All full-time 1L J.D. students must register for one of
these electives in the spring of their first year. All other students must complete one of these electives after their first year and before
graduation.
MJ Only- These courses are available only to M.J. students.
RW-Rigorous Writing courses all provide students with the opportunity to draft, edit, polish and produce one or more advanced writing
projects that are assessed by the faculty through detailed individualized feedback at each stage of the writing process.
JD.REQ- These courses are required for receipt of the J.D. degree; and where indicated must be taken in a particular semester.
BAR- Although all law school courses prepare students to sit for the Bar Exam, these courses cover substantive areas of the law that are
consistently tested on the Bar Exam or Model Professional Responsibility Exam in Illinois and in virtually every state.
EXP LRNG (LCE/CS)-These courses offer students experiential learning opportunities, Live Client Experience (LCE) and
Comprehensive Simulation (CS). All J.D. students must complete at least six credits of experiential learning, only 3 of which can be
completed through a comprehensive simulation.
BES- Bar Exam Strategy courses are designed to enhance Bar success through a combination of writing exercises and practice on Bar
style questions.
LL.M. Only- These courses are available only to LL.M. students.
Classes meet in the Law Center unless specified otherwise.
