RECEIVING INSTRUCTIONS

Visually inspect the entire product for any damage. Do not allow dirt or foreign matter to

contaminate the system. If you suspect any damage notify carrier immediately or call

SIMPLEX.

!! WARNING!!

This jack is for lifting only! Support the load immediately after completing the lift by

the other appropriate means. Never get under a load supported only by the jack.

Never exceed the rated capacity of the jack. Allow at least a ten percent margin of

safety.

Use jack only on solid surface compatible of supporting the load and base of the jack.

Always center the load on the lifting saddle of the jack. If the jack is not perpendicu-

lar to the load slipping or loss of load is possible.

Distribute the load evenly when performing multiple point lifts..Use only SIMPLEX hydraulic oil, or approved equivalent.

Failure to heed these warning may cause loss of load or failure of the jack resulting in

property damage or personal injury.

Never use electrical motors in an explosive atmosphere. Make sure the electrical

connections are grounded. Check that your power supply agrees with the nameplate.

The internal relief valve must not be repaired adjusted except by an authorized service

center.

CAUTIONS:

SIMPLEX CAN NOT BE RESPONSIBLE for damage or injury from unsafe use

application, or maintenance of this product. READ and follow all warnings, cautions,

and instructions associated with this product. Do not remove warning labels, tags, or

decals.

Fully retract the cylinder and protect the entire unit from external damage. Keep the

Power-Riser clean, avoid weld splatter, and store in a clean, dry area.

Inspect all system components before use.

BASIC OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

TO RAISE LOAD: (Refer to figure 2)

1. Push lever (#5) and raise handle assembly (#3) up.

2. Pull out and down on handle assembly (#3). Powr-Riser can now be pushed or pulled

(be mindful walking backwards) to work area. If necessary, the Powr-Riser should be

picked up under base (#2) or by the lifting bar (#7). Never attempt to pick jack up by

handle assembly.

3. The Powr-Riser must be positioned on a solid foundation with wooden or hard rubber

pads between the load and the jack.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The jack must be perpendicular to the load; jacking on an angle can

result in the jack slipping out and loss of load.

4. Once the Powr-Riser has been placed on a solid support surface, final positioning can be

accomplished by lowering the handle to its horizontal position to scoot the jack under the

load as required.

5. Be certain the electrical switch or air supply valve (#4) is in the off position. Check the

control valve handle to be sure it is in the IDLE (neutral or center) position. Connectthe Powr-Riser to the appropriate power source.

6. Start the motor then move the control valve handle (#1) to the rise position.

7. When load has reached the proper level, place the control valve handle in idle (neutral or

center) position. Never allow the motor to run with valve handle (#1) in the advance or

retract position without ram movement for morethan one minute or the jack will overheat.

CAUTION: Special care must be taken to keep the load level. Leveling is best accomplished by

jogging the electric motor or throttling the air valve (#4).

8. Secure the load by using the proper Simplex auxiliary U-Rings and appropriate additional

blocking or support stands. See page 7 for additional information on use of auxiliary

U-Rings.

TO LOWER THE LOAD:

1. Turn on electric motor or open air valve (#1).

2. Move directional control valve handle to raise position (#4).

3. When load clears stands, place directional control valve handle in idle (neutral or center)

position. Remove stands.

4. Move valve handle (#1) to lower position.

5. When piston has fully retracted, place directional control valve handle in idle (neutral orcenter) position and turn off the electric motor or close air valve.

CAUTION: Special care must be taken to keep the load level. Leveling is best

accomplished by jogging the electric motor or throttling the air valve (#4).

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

A. Inspect the oil once a week.

1. Keep oil level within 1-2/25-50mm of cover plate# 5 fig. 7

2. Look for water. Compare color to new oil. MILKY oil must be changed.

3. TOUCHrub between your fingers to compare used oil to new oil. Gritty oil

must be changed.

4. Normally change the hydraulic oil filter after every 50 hours of operation or every

90 days.

5. The use SIMPLEX oil is highly recommended. Additives in SIMPLEX oil protect

against oxidation, wear, corrosion, and foam. NOTE: USING OIL THAT HAS

IMPROPER VISCOSITY WILL DAMAGE PUMP COMPONENTS.

B. Pump Assembly (Refer to figure)

Pump Removal (Note: Make sure that pressure is released before working on any

jack. To assure that pressure is released, shift the directional control valve (# 1,fig.2 )

to the retract position and fully retract the fack. Turn off motor unplug or disconnect air or

power supply. Shift the valve to advance position. All pressure should be released, failureto release pressure may result in serious injury.

Clean Oil Filter Screen Periodically.

1. Loosen and remove reservoir plate bolts (# 10,fig.3) and retract tube assembly

(#24,fig.3). Lift pump unit off the reservoir being careful not to damage the

gasket (#6,fig.3).

2. Unscrew screen (#17,fig.7) from bottom of pump unit and clean with nonflammable

solvent.

3. Blow dry and reassemble.

C. Disassembly Details (Refer to figure)

1. Drain reservoir by removing plug, (#5,fig.31).

2. Disconnect the high pressure tube assembly (#24,fig.3).

3. Remove (14) hex head cap hosescrews (#10,fig.3).

4. Lift the lift side of pump assembly to disconnect hose assembly

from the bottom of pump mounting assembly.

5. Carefully remove pump and motor mounting assembly.

If you suspect your pump has been contaminated or discover sludge or other deposits

on internal components.

1. Remove the old oil from the reservoir, then thoroughly clean the reservoir andrefill with a clean oil.

2. Reassemble the pump and motor to the reservoir.

3. Repeat if necessary.

D. Cylinder Piston Remover For Seal Replacement (Refer to figure)

1. Raise the piston (#13, 14 fig.23) almost all the way up. Remove piston vent screw (60 ton

models).

2. Remove head gland nut (#3,fig.23). Take piston (#2, fig.4) out from the cylinder.

E. Air Motor And Filter Lubricator

The air motor is a precision built rotary motor. The top clearance (between rotor and

bore ) is .0015". The total end clearance (between the sides of the rotor and the end

plates) is .002". The vanes take up their own wear and will last 5,000- 12,000 hours,

depending upon speed, method of oiling, operating pressure, and lend itself to operating

pressures above 100 PSI (6.89 Bar-Metric). Allowing excess moisture or foreign

particles from the air line to enter the motor will nullify the guarantee.

A moisture trap and filter has been installed in the air line ahead of motor. For efficiency

of output and control of speed, use air line of not less than 3/4 in pipe size. When

coupling or connecting the motor to a drive member, avoid any end or side thrust on

the output shaft and especially DO NOT HAMMER ON SHAFT.

The starting torque is less than the running torque and could vary depending on the

position at which the vanes stop in relation to the air intake port. The speed and torquecan be regulated by using a pressure regulator or a simple shut-off valve. Lubrication is

necessary for the shaft seal, and rust prevention. Each air powered jack is equipped with an

automatic air line oiler set to feed 1-3 drops per minute. Use Simplex #18243

antifreeze oil. Excessive moisture in the line can cause rust formation in the motor and

might also cause ice to from in muffler due to expansion of air through the motor.

If the motor is sluggish or inefficient, try flushing with solvent in well ventilated area.

Disconnect the air line and muffler and add several teaspoons of solvent. Rotate the

shaft by hand in both directions for a few minutes, again connect the air line and apply

pressure slowly until there is no trace of solvent in exhaust air. (Keep face away from

exhaust air). Check the muffler felts for grease, dirt, etc. If dirty, wash them in solvent.

Replace the felts and connect the muffler. Relubricate the motor with a squirt of oil in

the chamber. If the vanes need replacing, or foreign particles are present in motor

chamber, an experienced mechanic may remove the end plate opposite the drive shaft

end.

DANGER: TO PREVENT EXPLOSIVE HAZARD, DO NOT PUMP COMBUSTIBLE

LIQUIDS OR VAPORS THOUGH THESE UNIT.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If the procedures listed below do not remedy the problem--the pump will require service and should

be taken to an authorized Simplex service center for repair.

PROBLEM CAUSE--SOLUTION

Sporadic Cylinder Action

Noisy Operation

Pump Oil is Overheating

Pump runs but will not pump oil, or

piston rod moves by will not lift load.

Piston extends but will not retract.

1. Air in he hydraulic system. Cycle the jack several

times under no load. Bleed cylinder piston assembly

(60 ton models) by removing vent and allowing air

under piston to escape. Retighten vent.

2. Check reservoir oil level.

1. Air in system (Same as above).

2. Check all points where air might leak into system.

3. Pump intake screen is blocked, remove pump and

clean screw.

1. Oil viscosity too high. Replace with Simplex oil.

2. Check for high pressure relief leakage.

3. Oil level is low. Fill reservoir to normal level.

1. Pump is not primed. Run pump a few minutes, tipping

jack back and forth.

2. Check internal relief valve.

3. Flush filter screen.

4. Defective control valve. (Troubleshoot separately or

replace valve.)5. Damaged O-Rings. Take to nearest Simplex service

center for repair.

1. Pump not developing enough pressure (2,500 PSI

required for retraction).

a. Check for internal pressure leaks, or leaking

retract hoses.

b. Adjust internal relief. (#48, Fig. 19)

c. Adjust retracts side relief. (#17, Fig. 24)

2. Defective O.C. Valve (#6, Fig. 21) replace.

3. Defective secondary lock valve fig. 29 replace.
