The Girls' Leadership Academy ExperienceWe want your child will be ready for whatever her future holds.Students will learn to think critically about global issues affectingfemales, explore leadership opportunities and connect with femalerole models. To remain relevant, students will engage in learningthrough technology. Students will be immersed in a welcomingenvironment that is conducive to learning.
Inside the ClassroomUsing real-world examples that girls can relate to, staff bring theOntario curriculum together with teaching methods targeted to girls’learning preferences. In all courses, students have the opportunityto explore, take risks, innovate and problem solve in a supportiveand caring learning environment. Finally, an emphasis on socialjustice is front and centre.
Outside the ClassroomWe know some of the most important learning occurs outside theclassroom. Offering robust extra curricular activities is important tostaff. We also provide opportunities to serve and lead. Students willcontribute to their school and community through volunteeractivities. Relationships with female mentors and role-models willoffer unique experiences and insights.
Registration DetailsThe Girl's Leadership Academy is located near Birchmount andFinch. All students have access to our school. There are nospecific admission requirements; just interest and passion arerequired. There is no tution or course material fees. We will beadding Grades 8 in 2014. Unfortunately transportation is notprovided.

We are proud of two unique programs. Young Women on the Move (YMW) is a powerful TDSBmentorship initiative for girls in Grades 3-12. Building onexisting mentorship programs for girls, YWM empowers girlsto become agents of positive change. YWM is a growingnetwork of socially conscious young women supported bymeaningful relationships with a strong community ofmentors.Mentoring Program: The Girls' Leadership Academy isgrounded in the belief that effective mentorship can createopportunities for young people; opportunities that would nototherwise exist. It is these opportunities that can lead tostudent engagement and academic success.
Parent and Community Engagement
We value parent, family, and community engagement and the ideas,perspectives and contributions that come from these partnerships.The involvement of family and community members enriches thelearning environment and contributes to student achievement. Parents and community members are engaged in a number ofways. These include the School Council, various school committiesand many other community partnerships that are important to ourstudents. We also believe that schools have an obligation tocontribute to their community. Therefore, our students are expectedto perform twenty hours of community service each year.
