According to the calendar, the summer is waning. We treasure late summer, as it gives us long, warm summer days with loads of sunny hours. The temperature of the bathing water is finally bearable at this degree of latitude. By now, all outdoor projects have either been completed or postponed to next season. We know that summer is here for a limited time only, and we guess that’s why we cherish this part of summer especially. We love to hold on to a bit of the summer, and especially in the consumable sense. We love picking herbs for drying or freezing, and they are equally healthy and delicious… but even more so, enjoyable! We dothesamewiththed�cor.TrineKarby,whomwevisitthistimearound, tells us that her flair for creativity stems from wanting to live in an exciting home but having no money for new projects. She might just be on to something here! “Necessity is the mother of invention”, and we believe that this spawns a lot of exciting and creative situations. Decorating has always been a passion to us as well, and we’ve had to come up with some pretty ingenious ideas to get to reach our goals. At one point, I guess our ingenuity transformed from a necessary thing to something we did deliberately. It’s become a delightful lifestyle, and one we love
at that!
This issue’s kitchen theme is packed with creative solutions that help create a homely kitchen. In most cases, all you really need to contribute with is your time. If you want to redo your kit-chen, you might want to consider doing it right now… you know, while the weather allows you to cook and eat outside while renovating. Alternatively, the salads in this issue are easy to make and require almost no time or space to make. They are
quick to make, but they are extremely satisfying!

In the elegant city of Vienna, Cornelia Müller has transformed an old luxury flat from the turn of the 19th century into a wonderful sanctuary for herself and her family.
When Cornelia’s husband, Torsten, was asked to, in terms of work, relocate from Hamburg to Vienna, it didn’t take the couple long to agree on what to do. In spite of their love for the cosmopolitan ambience of the Hafenstadt area of Hamburg, the couple decided to relocate. That is ten years ago now, and they haven’t regretted it for a minute! Vienna
had so much to offer; a high standard of living, a rich cultural heritage and a beauty that is only matched by its vivid history. The Vienna flat was restored and Cornelia redid the décor in a very elegant and French fashion. Since the move, Cornelia and Torsten have had two little girls, Vivica and Leonie.
Finding the perfect flat called for a lot of careful consideration. Vienna offered the couple all imaginable sorts of architectural styles, ranging from baroque to the modern style. Cornelia’s passion for all that is antique made it quite
obvious that they would come to settle on an old luxury flat.
The couple seized the opportunity when they first saw this four bedroom flat. They instantly fell in love with the old details of the flat; the tall period windows that flood the flat with light were a determining factor. This sort of light acts as a perfect, natural and bright backdrop for Cornelia’s romantic décor. The elevated ceilings and the reoccurring parquet floors and the huge double doors complement the light of the rooms perfectly and create a stunning effect.
The sofa and easy chairs seat the entire family. Special complementary items help liven up the room; an old shopping basket now holds magazines and an old floor pillow has been covered in old canvas bags. An olive wreath has been decorated with an old, French bridal hair clip and now graces the window.
It creates an incredibly romantic mood when you light the candles in an old church style candle holder. During the day, it is up to the sun to spread light on the parquet floors and liven up the room and the atmosphere.

This is another decorative piece that Cornelia has found in France. This authentic bunch of keys reminds her of a vacation to the south of France. Each key is around fifteen centimetres in length. The shelf on the wall and the display cabinet both hold lots of bowls, and most of them are old and white. Cornelia has carefully collected these over the years, and the collection keeps this section of the room looking bright and airy.

Cornelia is able to relax in this old, French iron bed that now acts as a couch. Here, she can flip through various magazines and books and search for new shabby chic inspiration for the home.The colours complement each other wonderfully. The white walls and furniture, the pink textiles, linen and flowers, the beige upholstery on the chair and bed all get along wonderfully… and they all complement the beautiful parquet.
C o r n e l i a ’ s S t y l e i s S i m p l e : A background palette containing various white and delicate nuances gives the French furniture plenty of space to room.
Her “less is more” approach allows, but also forces, every single item in the room to create their own success. However lovely or decorative an item is, it still needs to fend for its right to be in the room.
The lovely, old linens and faded, flowery quilts, French plates and antiquities are used daily. If the things aren’t useful, they haven’t been successful and so they are removed from the décor.
