Top 10By Fr. Jim Colopy
Periodically, I will have conversations with people about the nature of prayer. By the end of our time together, I offer him or her “25 Quotations on Prayer” by various saints, theologians, authors, and other holy men and women. Here are 10 of my favorite quotations I gladly share with you today:
+ “With me, prayer is a lifting up of the heart, a look towards heaven, a cry of gratitude equally in sorrow and joy; in a word, something noble, supernatural, which enlarges my soul and unites it to God” (St. Teresa of Lisieux)
+ “Prayer is our humble answer to the inconceivable surprise of living.” (Abraham Heschel)
+ “The wish to pray is prayer itself.” (George Bernanos)
+ “A Bible that is falling apart usually belongs to someone who is not.” (Anonymous)
+ “There is nothing that makes us love a person so much as praying for him or her.” (William Law)
+ “It is not well for a person to pray cream, and live skim milk” (Henry Ward Beecher)
+ “You have to have darkness to find a picture on the sensitive plate [of a camera,] and you have to have prayer to bring out the invisible presence of God.” (Fulton Oursler)
+ “If you are too busy to pray, you are too busy.” (Anonymous)
+ “Prayer for me is always a prayer full of memory, of recollection, even the memory of my own history. But above all, I also know that the Lord remembers me. I can forget him, but I know that he never, ever forgets me.” (Pope Francis)
+ “Pray as you are, not as you ought.” (Anonymous)
God bless you all!

“Lighten Your Load, Brighten Your Light”Day of Self-Care
“Lighten Your Load, Brighten Your Light” is a day of self-care and healing, Saturday, March 9, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Martin de Porres Center, Columbus.
Grounded in gratitude and humility, this day seeks to return the patience, compassion and love you give out, back on yourself. As caregivers, first responders, crisis counselors and volunteers, and ministry leaders, taking the time for self-care is vitally important to your resiliency and renewal, which ultimately influences your capacity to serve and lead. We invite you to retreat and reignite through your passion, faith, and community. Freewill offering is appreciated; registration is required due to limited space and lunch is provided.
To register, visit www.tinyurl.com/DHTF-register. For more information, contact Andrea Pannell, at 614-241-2550 or email at [email protected] by the diocesan Hope Task Force.

SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
“To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.” (1 CORINTHIANS 12:7)
St. Paul tells us that God has blessed each of us for a reason. How has God blessed you? Are you using your gifts according to God’s plan? How are you helping to build God’s kingdom here on earth? Remember that if you don’t do the work God planned for you, no one else can do it. Live the life God has intended for you, feel His love, peace and joy!
Learn how to share your gifts and Catholic legacy by supporting your parish and contact The Catholic Foundation. Visit www.catholic-foundation.org/development for more information.
Kim Owens in Our Lady’s Finance Office will also be happy to assist you in working with The Catholic Foundation. Contact Kim at 614-875-3322 or [email protected].
Annual St. Charles Spaghetti Dinner Sunday, February 10
The 2019 St. Charles Spaghetti Dinner is scheduled for Sunday, February 10, in the school’s Robert C. Walter Student Commons. Dinner will be served from 1:00-6:30 p.m. and all proceeds from the event will go towards supporting student financial aid.
The St. Charles Alumni Association—with the expert assistance of Berwick Party House and its owners, the Susi family—will team up with volunteer alumni, friends, students and parents of students to host this event. The St. Charles Jazz Ensemble will play from 3:00-4:00 p.m. and again from 5:00-6:00 p.m. for the enjoyment of diners and volunteers alike.
Guests will enjoy a bountiful meal of spaghetti with meatball, salad, rolls, ice cream and a beverage. The dinner is a great bargain! $10 for adults; $8 for senior citizens; $5 for children 4-12; free for those 3 and under; and $40 for a special family rate (dine-in and immediate family up to six members only, please). Carryout orders will also be available.
If you’d like to help or have any questions, please contact Louis J. Fabro, ’83, in the Alumni and Development Office by e-mail at [email protected].
