02The project is to analyse the form language of a specific car model, Volvo XC Coupe concept, and then apply it on a footwear

product, developing a touring skate boot for the bold individual with an active lifestyle.

FORM LANGUAGEThe Volvo XC Coupe concept features scandinavian design geared towards an active lifestyle, elegant yet unobtrusive. With a distinct live from the taillingts through the doorhandle to the front, reminiscent of the classic Volvo p-1800. The XC also features vibrant orange seatbelts to highlilght volvos priority for safety.The back and underseal in matte plastic are wrapped by a metallic body. Simple, angular splitlines, mainly constructed from intersecting trapezoid shapes. The back also features orange inserts stretching up from beneath the car into trapezoid shapes in the front and in the back.

With calm, minimalistic1 forms in typical scandinavian design2 fashion the Volvo XC Coupe promotes an active lifestyle3, unhindered traveling and exploring while still

retaining a feeling of premium4 quality and thorough reliabilty. The vibrant accents5 convey a techy, sporty expression .

03My focus in this project is to explore how I could improve the handle and understanding of the product for the user and thereby optimize the user experience.

For the form of the box I wanted to use big chamfers to convey a sense of robustness.I also intended a minimalist entirety to restrict

the visual pollution and thereby increase the general comprehension of the device.

SKETCH PROCESSWith the data I gathered from the user studies and mockup-testing in mind I started to explore different form directions around the hardpoints that I set up.

The remote control box features a vibrant LED that conveys visual feedback upon input in noisy environments and while the user is wearing working gloves where the touch of the buttons might be lacking.

The slots or the input panel of the final concept are arranged in a hierarchy of accesibility where thr client gets to arrange the placement of buttons depending on their specific needs. The way they have been separated allows for improved accesibility with work gloves enabling better working conditions for the user.

The arrangement of the slots also enables the user to easily locate the various buttons and functions while resting the hand on the joystick. Therefore refraining from any visual distraction while working.

Functions that are not supposed to be used while controllong the joysticks can be placed in the slots of the middle plane.

FEEDBACK UPON INPUT

The final concept has a robust, minimal shape, striving to reduce the visual pollution of the product itself and thereby leaving more room for the clients own control components, retaining easy readability.

The joysticks of the remote control box are placed on inclined planes for improved ergonomics. The product also features a sturdy ridge , functioning as a handle and protection for the joysticks. Improving the genaral handling of the box and facilitating the process of putting it on and off.

All of the major parts of the final concept are easily produced with injection molding tools and therefore allows for color customization according to a clients specific brand profile.

HEADPHONES

04Creat ing a fusion which combines the characteristic expression of the headphone with high gloss, golden detailing, modern, urban and premium quality.

SKETCH PROCESSAfter analysing the headphone I started sketching various form concepts with ballpoint pen. Trying to retain the classic, retro expression of the clubmasters but in a modern fashion. After finding a shape that I like, I continued sketching in photoshop.
