JESUS IS YAHWEH

In the Old Testament we can read that there is only one Lord, one God andone Savior. It was Yahweh (LORD), the Elohim (God) of heaven and earth,

who spoke these words. Elohim is the plural form of El i (God). BesideYahweh there is no other Lord, God and Savior. Yahweh, the Holy Name of Elohim (God), shall be remembered and abide to all generations (Psalms45:17, 102:12). Deut 6.4 says Yahweh our Elohim is one (echad) Lord. The

Hebrew word echad means compound unity and not one (yacheed) solitaryunity. The Father and the Son of God share that precious Name and were

called by the same Name Yahweh. Jesus in Hebrew is Yeshua/Yahushua orYahweh is salvation. He is the I AM (Jn 8:58, Ex 3:14).

JESUS/YESHUA/YASHUA IS YAHWEH PIERCED.

YAHWEH HERE IS SPEAKING AND ISRAEL WILL LOOK ON HIM WHOM THEYHAVE WAS PIERCED AND GRIEVED FOR HIM AS THE FIRSTBORN SON.

Zec 12:1 This is the word of the LORD(YAHWEH) concerning Israel. TheLORD, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth,and who forms the spirit of man within him, declares:

Zec 12:2 “I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surroundingpeoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem.

Zec 12:3 On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered againsther, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try

to move it will injure themselves.

Zec 12:4 On that day I will strike every horse with panic and its rider withmadness,” declares the LORD. “I will keep a watchful eye over the house of Judah, but I will blind all the horses of the nations.Zec 12:5 Then the leaders of Judah will say in their hearts, ‘The people of Jerusalem are strong, because the LORD Almighty is their God.’

Zec 12:6 “On that day I will make the leaders of Judah like a firepot in awoodpile, like a flaming torch among sheaves. They will consume right and

left all the surrounding peoples, but Jerusalem will remain intact in her place.

Zec 12:7 “The LORD will save the dwellings of Judah first, so that the honorof the house of David and of Jerusalem’s inhabitants may not be greater than

that of Judah.Zec 12:8 On that day the LORD will shield those who live in Jerusalem, so

that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David willbe like God, like the Angel of the LORD going before them.

Zec 12:9 On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attackJerusalem.

And His rebuke with flames of fire. ISA 66:16 For the LORD will execute judgment by fire

And by His sword on all flesh,And those slain by the LORD will be many.

2Th 1:7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will

happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing firewith his powerful angels.

2Th 1:8 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey thegospel of our Lord Jesus.

2Th 1:9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out fromthe presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power

JESUS IS YAHWEH WHO SHALL COME AND STAND AT THE MOUNTOLIVES

Zec 14:3 Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations, as hefights in the day of battle.Zec 14:4 On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of

Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west,forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south.

JESUS IS YAHWEH COMING WITH HIS HOLY ONES

Zec 14:5 You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You

will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah.Then the LORD my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.Zec 14:6 On that day there will be no light, no cold or frost.Zec 14:7 It will be a unique day, without daytime or nighttime—a day known

to the LORD. When evening comes, there will be light.Zec 14:8 On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half to the

eastern sea and half to the western sea, in summer and in winter.Zec 14:9 The LORD will be king over the whole earth. On that day

there will be one LORD, and his name the only name.

Jude 1:14 Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men:“See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy

ones Jude 1:15 to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the

ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh wordsungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

Rev 19:11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a whitehorse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges andmakes war.

Rev 19:12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns.He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself.

Rev 19:13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Wordof God.Rev 19:14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on whitehorses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.

Rev 19:15 Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike downthe nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the

winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.Rev 19:16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

JESUS IS YAHWEH SENT BY THE FATHER GOD ALMIGHTY TO RULE

WITH HIM FOREVER AND DWELL WITH HIS PEOPLE.

Zec 2:9 I will surely raise my hand against them so that their slaves will

plunder them. Then you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me.Zec 2:10 “Shout and be glad, O Daughter of Zion. For I am coming, and Iwill live among you,” declares the LORD.

Zec 2:11 “Many nations will be joined with the LORD in that day andwill become my people. I will live among you and you will know thatthe LORD Almighty has sent me to you.

Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection.The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God

and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

Rev 21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heavenand the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.Rev 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now thedwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be

his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.Rev 21:4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more

death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passedaway.”

Rev 21:5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everythingnew!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy andtrue.” Rev 21:6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the

Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink withoutcost from the spring of the water of life.

Rev 21:7 He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God andhe will be my son.

Rev 21:22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord GodAlmighty and the Lamb are its temple.Rev 21:23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the

glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.Rev 21:24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will

bring their splendor into it.Rev 21:25 On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no nightthere.Rev 21:26 The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it.

Rev 22:1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as

crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb Rev 22:2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the

river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruitevery month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.Rev 22:3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of theLamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.

Rev 22:4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.Rev 22:5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp

or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will

reign for ever and ever.

Rev 22:12 “Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I

will give to everyone according to what he has done.Rev 22:13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, theBeginning and the End.Rev 22:14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the

right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.Rev 22:15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually

immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practicesfalsehood.

Rev 22:16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for thechurches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright MorningStar.”

JESUS IS GOD

Lord, God

And Savior

The New Testament records that our Lord Jesus Christ the Word was with theFather in the beginning and was God (John 1:1-2). He revealed all that

Father has is His— this includes honor, glory and power (John 16:15,17:5,10). Since Jesus is Yahweh He is therefore also called and is the Lord,

God and Savior. He is equal with God His Father. Whatever the Father doesthe Son also does in the same manner (John 5:18-19). Whatever the Father

says that what the Son also speaks (John 8:26,28). Jesus said, “I and theFather are one”. The Greek word used is “hen” which means essence. He and

the Father are of one essence— that is Divine nature.

Isaiah 43:3a, 11

3“For I am the LORD your GOD,The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;

11“I, even I, am the LORD,And there is no SAVIOR besides Me.

Hosea 13:4

13Yet I have been the LORD your GodSince the land of Egypt;And you were not to know any god except Me,

For there is no SAVIOR

1Kings 8:6060so that all the peoples of the earth may know that

the LORD is GOD; there is NO ONE else.

2Peter 3:1818But grow in the grace and knowledge of our LORD AND SAVIOR Jesus

Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

1Corinthians 8:66yet for us there is BUT ONE GOD, THE FATHER , from whom are all

things and we exist for Him; and ONE LORD, JESUS CHRIST, by whomare all things, and we exist through Him.

Philippians 2:5-75Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in CHRIST JESUS,

Luke 2:1111for today in the city of David there has been born for you a

SAVIOR , who is CHRIST the LORD.

He is Lord of All

Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Lord. The title Lord here does not imply a human

master but the Lord of heaven and earth— the Lord of All. Yahweh is theLord of All, the Lord of lords and God of gods. Our Lord Jesus asked thereligious leaders of His time what they thought of Christ. Whose Son was He?When they answered the son of David, He refuted them with a question, “If

He was David’s son, why did David in the spirit called him Lord and theFather asked Him to sit on the throne with Him?” Jesus is Lord. He is the

King of kings and Lord of lords.

Joshua 3:1313“It shall come about when the soles of the feet of the priests who carry theark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, rest in the waters of the Jordan,

the waters of the Jordan will be cut off, and the waters which are flowingdown from above will stand in one heap.”

Deuteronomy 10:17

11“For the LORD your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, thegreat, the mighty, and the awesome God who does not show partiality nor

take a bribe.

1 Tim 6:15-1615which He will bring about at the proper time—He who is the blessed and

only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,16who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light,

whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion!

Matthew 22:41-4541Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a

The Creator

The Lord Jesus Christ is truly God because He was in the beginning with the

Father from eternity past and enjoyed the presence and the works with Him.The Father delighted in the Son and all things in the heavens and in theearth, visible and invisible were created through Him and for Him.

Proverbs 30:44Who has ascended into heaven and descended?

Who has gathered the wind in His fists?Who has wrapped the waters in His garment?WHO HAS ESTABLISHED ALL THE ENDS OF THE EARTH? WHAT IS HIS NAME or HIS SON’S NAME?

Surely you know!

John1:2-3, 102HE WAS IN THE BEGINNING WITH GOD.

3ALL THINGS CAME INTO BEING THROUGH HIM, AND APART FROMHIM NOTHING CAME INTO BEING THAT HAS COME INTO BEING.

Colossians 1:1616For BY HIM ALL THINGS WERE CREATED, both in the heavens and on

earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers orauthorities—ALL THINGS HAVE BEEN CREATED THROUGH HIM ANDFOR HIM.

Hebrews 1:22in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He

The Father called HimGod and Lord

Many who do not believe on the Deity of Christ used the scriptureserroneously. He is man because He called on God, He revealed the Father as

the Only True God and He got hungry, got tired, slept and died as a human.They missed what the scriptures declared that He took the form of a man.

God the Father called His Son God and Lord, is worshiped, sited on the

Throne and it was through Him the heavens and the earth were created.

Hebrews 1:5-13 (Ps 2:7, 45:6, 102:25-27, 110:1)5For to which of the angels did He ever say,

"YOU ARE MY SON,TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU"?

And again,"I WILL BE A FATHER TO HIM

AND HE SHALL BE A SON TO ME"?6And when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says,

"AND LET ALL THE ANGELS OF GOD WORSHIP HIM."

7And of the angels He says,"WHO MAKES HIS ANGELS WINDS,

AND HIS MINISTERS A FLAME OF FIRE."8But of the Son He says,

"YOUR THRONE, O GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER , AND THE RIGHTEOUSSCEPTER IS THE SCEPTER OF HIS

The Prophets Confirmed

His DeityBefore Christ the Lord took the form of a man the Old Testament prophets

knew and proclaimed who He was. Through their inspired writings the wordof God showed consistency and harmony in revealing who the Son of God is.

And the peoples devising a vain thing?2The kings of the earth take their stand

And the rulers take counsel togetherAgainst the LORD and against HIS ANOINTED, saying,

The Apostles ConfirmedHis Deity

Nothing is more reliable and competent to believe and receive teachings from

other than from the testimony and witness of those who have been with ourLord Jesus Christ. They have lived, touched, heard and given the authority to

proclaim and teach His words. They were commanded to write these

scriptures to testify the true identity and being of our Lord Jesus Christ.

John 1:1-3, 14The Deity of Jesus Christ

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and theWORD WAS GOD.

The Word Made Flesh14And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His

GLORY, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and

truth.

Revelation 19:13

13He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and HIS NAME is called TheWORD OF GOD.

Romans 9:5

5whose are the fathers, and from whom is the CHRIST according to theflesh, who is over all, GOD BLESSED FOREVER . Amen.

Colossians 2:9

9For in Him all the FULLNESS OF DEITY DWELLS in bodily form,

20And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given usunderstanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Himwho is true, in His Son JESUS CHRIST. This is the TRUE GOD ANDETERNAL LIFE.

Spirits/Dominions Can’t DenyHis Deity

Some may not be convinced by human testimonies but invisible powers orspirits bowing down to the Lordship of Christ manifest His Deity and being

the Son of God. These spirits knew who and where our Lord Jesus came from

and what the Son of God has for them in the future.

Matthew 8:2929And they cried out, saying, "What business do we have with each other,

SON OF GOD? Have You come here to torment us before the time?"

Luke 8:27- 2827And when He came out onto the land, He was met by a man from the city

who was possessed with demons; and who had not put on any clothingfor a long time, and was not living in a house, but in the tombs.

28Seeing Jesus, he cried out and fell before Him, and said in a loud voice,

"What business do we have with each other, Jesus, SON OF THE MOSTHIGH GOD? I beg You, do not torment me."

Luke 4:4141Demons also were coming out of many, shouting, "You are the SON OF

GOD!" But rebuking them, He would not allow them to speak, becausethey knew Him to be the CHRIST.

Jesus Christ ConfirmedHis Deity

Our Lord Jesus confirmed His Deity by attesting to the faith Thomas has

expressed and that he is blessed because he believed and confessed that Heis Lord and God. He shall come again in His glory with His angels and shall sit

on His glorious throne. The Jewish high priest clearly understood the answer

of Jesus Christ when He said that the He is the Christ the Son of God (callingGod His Father making Himself equal with God) and hereafter they shall see

Him sitting at the right hand of power and shall come on the clouds of heaven. They have put Him to death because to them the Lord’s claim wasblasphemous and deserved death.

John 20:28-29

28Thomas answered and said to Him, “MY LORD AND MY GOD!"

29Jesus said to him, "Because you have seen Me, have you BELIEVED?Blessed are they who did not see, and yet BELIEVED."

Matthew 25:31

The Judgment31"But when the Son of Man comes in HIS GLORY, and all the angels with

Him, then He will SIT ON HIS GLORIOUS THRONE.

Matthew 26:62-6662The high priest stood up and said to Him, "Do You not answer? What is it

that these men are testifying against You?"63But Jesus kept silent And the high priest said to Him, "I adjure You by the

living God, that You tell us whether You are the CHRIST, THE SON OFGOD."

64Jesus said to him, "You have said it yourself; nevertheless I tell you,hereafter you will see THE SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT

HAND OF POWER, and COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN."65Then the high priest (tore his robes and said, "He has blasphemed! What

further need do we have of witnesses? Behold, you have now heard theBLASPHEMY;66what do you think?" They answered, "He deserves

death!"

The Son of Godfrom Heaven

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. This revelation did not come from humanwisdom or spirit but from God the Father and with this revelation is thatJesus came down from heaven and that He is the Lord and above all. Our

Lord Jesus Christ testified that He was not from this world and came not fromthis world but from heaven where His Father is. The Son of God came down

from heaven where He was before. These statements proved the teachings of His apostles that He was in the form of God before He took the form of man.

29 His disciples said, “Lo, NOW YOU ARE SPEAKING PLAINLY and are notusing a figure of speech.

30 “Now we know that You know all things, and have no need for anyone toquestion You; BY THIS WE BELIEVE THAT YOU CAME FROM GOD.”

31 Jesus answered them, “DO YOU NOW BELIEVE?”

Equal with God the Father

The Jews stoned our Lord Jesus not because of the good things He has done

but because He called God His Father and saying He and the Father are onemaking Himself equal with God and God (John 5:18,10:30-33,36). Is our

Lord Jesus really equal and one with God the Father? Isn’t the Father greaterthan the Son? To what extent our Lord Jesus is equal and one with God? The

Father of course is greater that the Son because He is His Father and Jesus isHis Son but they are equal and one in all things. Whatever the Father doesthe Son does in like manner. Whatever the Father has is of the Son. The Sonshares the glory with the Father even before the world was.

John 5:18-23Jesus' Equality with God

18For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him,because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling GOD

HIS OWN FATHER , MAKING HIMSELF EQUAL WITH GOD.19Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them,

"Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, UNLESS

it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does,these things the Son also does in LIKE MANNER .

20"For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself isDOING; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that

you will marvel.21"For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, EVEN SO THE

SON ALSO GIVES LIFE TO WHOM HE WISHES.22"For not even the Father judges anyone,

but He has given all judgment to the Son,23so that ALL WILL HONOR the Son even as they HONOR the Father. He

who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

John 2:18-22 18The Jews then said to Him, "What sign do You show us as your

The First and Second Commandment of the Old Covenant God gave to Israelwas that they shall have no other gods before Him and shall not make, bow

or worship other than to Him (Exodus 20:3-5). Will God be the first to break

His Law when He asked the angels and all men and all creation visible andinvisible, thrones and dominions to worship and bow down in the name of Jesus Christ? He will not because our Lord Jesus Christ is His Only Son andshares all the honor and the glory and the power with Him from eternity toeternity.

Those who maintain that our Lord Jesus Christ is only human believe his

authority, lordship and power are only temporal because it was given to Himand shall be surrendered to God in the last day. This scripture 1Corinthian

15:27-28 they say confirmed their belief, “For HE (GOD) HAS PUT ALLTHINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET. But when He says, “All things areput in subjection,” it is evident that He (The Father) is excepted who put all

things in subjection to Him (Christ). When all things are subjected to Him,then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected allthings to Him, so that God may be all in all. It is erroneous to conclude that

Christ shall not reign and rule anymore when He subjects Himself to God.Nothing in the scripture mentioned that our Lord Jesus Christ shall not reign

anymore. He shall be in subjection to the Father because God was His Fatherand He was given a commandment to put all things under Him and the head

of Christ is God. Rather the scripture proclaimed that our Lord Jesus Christshall reign forever, His Kingdom shall be of no end, blessing, honor, gloryand dominion shall be forever and ever and He shall sit on His Throne withthe Father and shall reign forever.

great God and Savior. He shall come to bring everlasting salvation to thesaints but wrath and judgment to the wicked and those who do not obey Him

The Lord God,the Alpha and Omega,

the Beginning and the EndGod alone is the Alpha and Omega, Beginning and the End. Our Lord Jesus

Christ has spoken. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last andthe Beginning and the End. Nothing came into existence and being withoutHim; for without Him nothing was made that was made (John 1:3). All thingsvisible and invisible were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things

and in Him all things hold together (Colossians 1:16-17). He is the cause and

sustainer of all things and is the end of all things (1Corinthians 8:6). Allthings are given and handed to the Son (John 17:10). Jesus is the Beginning

and the End as His Father is the Beginning and the End. It is clear from theScriptures that only God alone possesses such attributes and qualities as theFirst and the Last, the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End(Isaiah 44:6). The LORD, the first and the last is the “I Am” (Isaiah 41:4)

and Jesus came from above, the beginning and the end is the “I Am” (John8:23-24). And finally when Jesus comes again it shall be the end. As the

Father is the First and the Last so is the Son. Jesus is the Lord God who isthe Alpha and Omega.

Isaiah 41:44“Who has performed and accomplished it,

Let us make a biblical investigation of the nature of Jesus Christ.

Those who do not believe on the Deity of Christ conclude that Jesus is manbecause of the verses that say He is a man or man therefore He has no other

nature. His existence began when He was born through a virgin named Marythrough the power of the Most High. Jesus is man because He thirst, hunger,

slept, and die. God can never thirst or hunger or die. God is a spirit andJesus has flesh and bones. God is not man. But the question is, “Can God

take the form of a man?”

They fail to understand Jesus was not man in the beginning. He became manwhen He was sent by the Father to earth for our redemption. He needed a

human body for His mission on earth and that body is offered as the ultimatesacrifice for our sins and the precious blood unblemished and unspotted for

our cleansing.

1PE 1:18

knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silveror gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,1PE 1:19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the

blood of Christ.

God is a spirit and a spirit can not have a body or a blood. So Christ the Sonof God has to take the form of a man. Now we should establish that the

Christ, the Son of the Living God really existed before He took the form of aman.

We agree that there are verses of Scriptures saying that Jesus is a man itssimply because He took its form. But why is He also called the Son of Godand the Jews in fact killed Him for this title. Let's know what the word of God

say concerning Jesus as the Son of God.

LET'S ESTABLISH THE TRUTH FROM THE BEGINNING

1. ORIGIN OF THE CHRIST

Mic 5:2 “ But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,

Too little to be among the clans of Judah,From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel.

Christ’s origin or goings forth is from eternity.

gods of Greece, and worship the crucified sage, and live after his laws. All thisthey take quite on faith, with the result that they despise all worldly goods alike,regarding them merely as common property." (emphasis added)

Pliny the Younger, Roman governor of Bithynia in Asia Minor around 112 AD,

wrote to the Emperor Trajan observing that the Christians sang hymns to Christ "asto a god":

"[The Christians] were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it waslight, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god..."

Further non-Biblical evidence to show that Christians were recognized as those who

worshiped Jesus is seen in some first century Pagan graffiti, which attempts toridicule Christians by depicting a believer worshiping a horse type headed god on across:

There is also the testimony of the non-canonical writings of the early Christians. The

list below is only a mere sampling as many quotations could be cited.*

St. Ignatius of Antioch.

It is well worth noting that Ignatius was an early church father who was a disciple of

the Apostle John. Throughout his letters it can clearly be seen that Ignatius wasgreatly influenced by John's high Christology (For example, compare Ignatius'

statements of Jesus' Divinity with what John writes at: John 1:1, 18; 5:18; 8:58;20:28). Quotes taken from Apostolic Fathers_ Lightfoot & Harmer, 1891 translation:

Ignatius to the Ephesians

Chapter 0

0:0 "Ignatius, who is also Theophorus, unto her which hath been blessed ingreatness through the plentitude of God the Father; which hath been foreordained

Chapter 18

18:1 "My spirit is made an offscouring for the Cross, which is a stumbling-block to

For our God, Jesus the Christ, was conceived in the womb by Mary according to a

Chapter 19

19:3 "From that time forward every sorcery and every spell was dissolved, the

ignorance of wickedness vanished away, the ancient kingdom was pulled down, whenGod appeared in the likeness of man unto _newness of_ everlasting _life; _

and that which had been perfected in the counsels of God began to take effect.Thence all things were perturbed, because the abolishing of death was taken in

hand."

Ignatius to the Romans

Chapter 3

3:3 "Nothing visible is good. For our God Jesus Christ , being in the Father, is the

more plainly visible. The Work is not of persuasiveness, but Christianity is a thing of might, whensoever it is hated by the world."

Ignatius to the Smyrnaeans

Chapter 1

1:1 " I give glory to Jesus Christ the God who bestowed such wisdom uponyou; for I have perceived that ye are established in faith immovable, being as it

were nailed on the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ, in flesh and in spirit, and firmly

grounded in love in the blood of Christ, fully persuaded as touching our Lord that Heis truly of the race of David according to the flesh, but Son of God by the Divine will

and power, truly born of a virgin and baptized by John that all righteousness mightbe fulfilled by Him."

Chapter 6

6:1 "Let no man be deceived. Even the heavenly beings and the glory of the angels

and the rulers visible and invisible, if they believe not in the blood of Christ [who

is God], judgment awaiteth them also. _He that receiveth let him receive._ Let notoffice puff up any man; for faith and love are all in all, and nothing is preferred

before them."

Polycarp

Polycarp was also believed to have been a disciple of the apostle John. Lightfoot

points out that after Ignatius was executed, Polycarp collected together his epistles(Lightfoot, p. 165).

The Epistle of Polycarp to the Philippians

12:2 "Now may the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the eternal High-

priest Himself the [Son of God Jesus Christ, build you up in faith and truth, and in allgentleness and in all avoidance of wrath and in forbearance and long suffering and in

patient endurance and in purity; and may He grant unto you a lot and portion amongHis saints, and to us with you, and to all that are under heaven, who shall believe on

our Lord and God Jesus Christ and on His Father that raised him from the dead."

(emphasis added).

Tatian the Syrian, Address to the Greeks (C. 165 - 175 A.D.):

"We are not playing the fool, you Greeks, nor do we talk nonsense, when we reportthat God was born in the form of a man."

St. Melito of Sardes, Fragment in Anastasius of Sinai (C. 177 A.D.):

"The activities of Christ after His Baptism, and especially His miracles, gaveindication and assurance to the world of the Deity hidden in His flesh. Being God

and likewise perfect man, He gave positive indications of His two natures:of His Deity, by the miracles during the three years following after His

Baptism; of His humanity, in the thirty years which came before His Baptism,during which, by reason of His condition according to the flesh, he concealed the

signs of His Deity, although He was the true God existing before the ages."

St. Irenaeus of Lyons, Against Heresies 3, 19, 1 (C. 180 AD):

"Nevertheless, what cannot be said of anyone else who ever lived, that He isHimself in His own right God and Lord and Eternal King and Only-begotten

and Incarnate Word, proclaimed as such by all the Prophets and by the Apostles

and by the Spirit Himself, may be seen by all who have attained to even a smallportion of the truth. The Scriptures would not have borne witness to these things

concerning Him, if, like everyone else, He were mere man. But that He had inHimself what no other ever had, that pre-eminent generation by the Most High

Father; and that He also experienced that pre-eminent birth from a Virgin, - thedivine Scriptures testify to both in His regard."
