The “tribes” of IsraelRomans 2:28-29, 9:6,
The promise of deliveranceMark 13:27(Isaiah 11:12, 43:6-7 etc)
Breakdown on Matthew 24Matthew 24 is the key to Revelation 6-10
Parallel languageSign of the Fig Tree (6:13)Tribulation (1:9. 7:14)“Coming in the Clouds” (1:7)
The Sign of the TimeJesus presented 5 signs in Matthew 24
They set a timeframe for this prophecy
This is what we see in Revelation 6-10
The First Sign of the TimeComing of false christs and prophets
Per Paul, false teachers were coming to Ephesus during the overseers time (Acts 20:30) 58AD
Per Paul, false teachers caused the problems in the churches of Galatia (Gal. 2:4) 50AD
Per John, false teachers came were present (I John 2:18, 2 John 7, etc): 70AD
Per Jude, it had already happened (Jude 4,18) 70AD
The Second Sign of the TimeA great persecution
Until 64 AD, Roman government saw Christians as a sect of Judaism
After July 64 AD, Christians became the most persecuted group by Nero
Acts 18:14-16 And when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "If it
were a matter of wrongdoing or wicked crimes, O Jews, there would be reason why I
should bear with But if it is a question of words and names and your own law, look to
it yourselves; for I do not want to be a judge of such matters.” And he drove them from the
judgment seat.
Consequently, to get rid of the report, Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their
abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the
world find their centre and become popular. Accordingly, an arrest was first made of all who pleaded guilty; then, upon their information, an immense multitude was convicted, not so much of the crime of firing
the city, as of hatred against mankind. Mockery of every sort was added to their deaths. Covered with the skins of beasts, they were
torn by dogs and perished, or were nailed to crosses, or were doomed to the flames and burnt, to serve as a nightly illumination, when
daylight had expired – Tacitus Annals XV44
The Third Sign of the TimeThe Gospel will be preached to the entire world
Colossians 1:6 which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and
is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth;
Colossians 1:23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and
steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every
creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister
Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared
to all menRomans 10:18 But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed: "Their sound
has gone out to all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world."
The Fourth Sign of the TimeMatthew 24:34 "Assuredly, I say to you,
this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place”
In the Bible, a generation was 40 yearsJesus spoke around AD 30AD 70 – Jerusalem destroyed
Numbers 32:13 "So the LORD'S anger was aroused against Israel, and He made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the
sight of the LORD was gone.”
The Fifth Sign of the TimeThe Abomination of Desolation
This is defined in Luke 21:20This occurred June, 68 AD
Luke 21:20 "But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then
know that its desolation is near.”
