India’s largest stainless-steel
manufacturing company Jindal
Stainless Limited has successfully
completed level-2 process
automation for its Argon Oxygen
Decarburization converter at its
Jajpur plant in Odisha.
The automation process has
helped the company achieve 10 per
cent improvement in productivity with
the help of real-time carbon and temperature analysis
during production. This process was completed in a
short span of two weeks with Technologies Limited as
the implementation partner.
This is the second digital transformation adopted by
the Company Primetalsafter last year’s migration to SAP
BW/4HANA. JSL MD Abhyuday Jindal said “This
automation process is a part of our continuous
endeavour to attain better operational efficiency and
offer improved product quality to our customers by
adopting breakthrough technology. We will continue our
efforts to migrate our manufacturing ecosystem
towards 100 per cent digital avatar that would unlock
enormous value for JSL and its partners.”
The upgraded AOD converter will improve overall
refining operations at the facility. Level-2 process
automation is a dynamic process model which will allow
both, advance calculations and online simulation of
processes. Advance calculations shall result in trimming
errors significantly as input materials will be prepared in
Jindal Stainless Completes Automation for Jajpur Plantadvance. This dynamic process
model is based on dozens of
metallurgical equations which use
cyclic online calculations to analyse
the chemical reaction in the AOD
converter both, in real time and at a
point in future.
This improves the process
accuracy and the quality of the
stainless steel produced. The
upgrade will also help in collating a valuable
knowledge database for use in future optimisations
and new developments.
AOD process is used worldwide to primarily produce
stainless steel and other high-grade alloys. The process
filters out carbon and other impurities to achieve better
product quality. JSL has been operating its AOD
converter since 2011. The newly upgraded level-2
system offers a large number of interfaces and is now
integrated with the existing technological set-up at JSL.
In early 2019, Jindal Stainless had become an early
adopter of SAP BW/4HANA, one of the world’s fastest
data warehouse and reporting systems. This transition
helped the organization reduce the time taken for real
time inventory reporting from 30 minutes to just a
minute. In April 2017, Jindal Stainless had undertaken a
digital revolution by upgrading its ERP applications and
migrating to the HANA database on Cloud. It enabled
business transactions and report analysis to become 10
to 15 times faster.
Tata Steel Ltd is expecting its
capex during the current
fiscal to touch the 9,000-crore mark,
company sources said. The steel
major, however, will take a cautious
approach at the capital allocation
for the next financial year, they said.
The steel maker had, earlier, said
that it would revise the planned
capital expenditure for the 2019-20
to Rs8,000 crore from Rs12,000
crore for the group. In the third
quarter, company had spent about
Rs2,777crore, taking the total
Tata Steel Capex Likely to Touch Rs. 9,000 Cr in FY20capital expenditure to Rs7,762 crore
during the first nine months of the
current fiscal, sources said.
The company had invested
around Rs1,367crore for its India
operation, including about Rs935
crore expenditure for its
Kalinganagar plant in Odisha, they
said. “A part of the capex is
committed to Tata Steel Europe. Thus,
the actual spending will be higher.
By the year-end, the capex will
be around Rs9,000crore. “But (we
are) looking at the capital
allocation very sharply for the
next year and it would depend on
how the markets play out over
the next few months,” sources
said. They said the company has
prioritised the pellet plant and the
cold-rolling mill. “The pellet plant
will help us to bring down costs
while the cold-rolling mill to add
value to the product mix…We
maintain our target to
commission the same in about a
year from now,” the company had
informed the analysts.

Corporate Guarantor.”
IFCI had filed petition to initiate
insolvency proceedings against
ACCIL Hospitality, which had
extended a corporate guaranty for
Asian Colour Coated Ispat Limited,
which is currently under insolvency
proceedings. IFCI had contended
that liability of ACCIL Hospitality
was joint and coextensive with that
of the Principal Borrower, ACCL
and the mere filing of claim by the
financial creditor in the corporate
insolvency resolution proceedings
could not absolve the Corporate
Guarantor of its contractual obligation
of discharging the liability.
ACCL was the principal
borrower, which had defaulted in

Collective for achieving highest ever
production of rails in current fiscal
year and exhorted senior officials to
draw a detailed action plan for
enhancing production,
efficiency and ensuring a zero
accident paradigm.
Minister Pradhan also
interacted with the
representatives of MSMEs in

association.
It may be mentioned here
that the blooms cast in SMS-3 are
ideally suited for rolling the world’s
longest 130 metre rails at the
plant’s Universal Rail Mill. Even as
the graph of production from SMS-3
is steadily rising with two
convertors in operation, the addition
of Convertor 3 would enable SMS-3
to supply higher volumes of cast
blooms for URM.
