With rigorous assessment pieces designed to allow the children to share their knowledge, moderation process within the school were created to ensure consistency across classrooms when marking against assessment criteria. Moderation protocols established by Jindalee SS have since been adopted and implemented across the Centenary cluster of schools, allowing the three state primary schools and Yr 7 teachers at Centenary State High School to moderate as a collective group, using work samples from all schools, twice yearly. Additionally, the school now aligns its teaching practices and knowledge from a new English program, including a writing program which was first implemented last year. Spelling and the way in which it is being taught, has been the final area of improvement, with 2019 being the year both spelling and writing become a combined focus in the school. With 2015, 2016 and 2017 focussed on the teaching of reading skills and the analysis of student reading data, work in this area continues as writing and spelling become the improvement focus. As the school progressed in its curriculum improvements, essential supporting materials for teaching staff were created to ensure teachers were teaching with consistency and alignment. An Australian Curriculum Implementation Plan, Whole School Curriculum Plan, Pedagogical Framework, Year Level Curriculum Overviews, Moderation Protocols, and a Diagnostic Assessment and Monitoring Schedule were written to compliment the curriculum and pedagogical practices in the classroom. From a non-curricular perspective, changes have taken place with the implementation of the evidenced-based Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework which replaced the very outdated ‘Jindalee Way’ behaviour system. As a behaviour system which systemically addresses the positive and negative behaviour attributes of students, drawing on individual and collective data, PBL distinctly links to our most recently written and implemented system, our Whole School Model of Student Support. This inclusive support model functions to streamline processes enabling the identification of students requiring support, which can range from academic support in the classroom to high-needs support for children with significant social, emotional and academic needs. Jacobs Well

On a very hot and steamy Monday, March 18, 3HF had theirexcursion to Jacobs Well Environmental Education Centre. Suewas our teacher for the day. This was to support our scienceunit on life and living.

The students met Bluey, the blue tongue lizard, a large carpetpython, three green tree frogs and a long-necked turtle. Whichof these do you think are reptiles? Which of these do you thinkare amphibians?

We also got to explore the mangroves at Jacobs Well. We hadto tread carefully as there were small crabs everywhere. Somepeople tried to catch the crabs. The mangrove slugs were theeasiest to catch. To camouflage ourselves we used mangrovemud on our faces. Mangrove mud is not living but it supportslots of life in the mangroves. We licked salty leaves and learnedabout the special mangrove roots. Do you think the water atJacobs Well tastes salty too?

Year 2 Lone Pine Excursion

We also saw two Tasmanian devils. Next, it was our turnfor the hands on talk and activity and we even got to take it inturns to pat the koala. When the show finished, it was time forlunch. Then we went to see the crocodile, dingo and ReptileCentre. After that, we went to the barn. In the barn, there werechickens, chicks, goats, sheep, pigs and working dogs. Finally,it was time for us to get back on the bus to return to school.
