At JJW ARCHITECTS we have created an organi-

sation concentrating our competences in three

dynamic divisions. The aim behind this is to

enforce JJW’s position concerning innovative

and socially committed solutions – with focus

on people. Formerly our focus was on specific

professions, but now we have created a closer collaboration across

professions and thereby created a foundation for an exchange ma-

king visible and enhancing our professional ambitions about sha-

ring knowledge and bringing new thought to live..

hOLIStIC OUtLOOKCITY & HOUSING emphasises our focus on creating synergies between indoors and outdoors: working with housing requires a holistic outlook enveloping residents, city areas, sustainability and social & cultural understanding. The housings form part of the urban context.

SyNErGIBUSINESS & HEALTH reflect the connection between JJW’s attitude towards future assignments wi-thin to fields. Our vision is to create tailor-made everyday housing focusing on good acoustics, indoor environment, energy optimisation, and user interaction. Both fields of competences are strongly con-nected to knowledge and strategic solutions enabling us to succeed in creating synergy between these two areas.

EdUCatIONaL ENvIrONmENtSLEARNING & CULTURE can be subdivided into environments for learning and for competence crea-tion; this increasingly entails the same level of challenge. In the schools, the discussion is on class-rooms or more flexible areas for education; and when looking at exhibition areas and auditoriums the discussion centres on noise levels and a proper indoor environment.Mutual for both education environments and cultural environments is the demand for engaging and eventful environments for both learning and development.

We are strong within the field of of-fice buildings. We have an exten-sive and long tradition for making office buildings and are good at identifying the customer needs.

Our experience stems from interacting closely with the users paired with our extensive theoreti-cal knowledge of space management, lights and sounds and not least our understanding of indoor problem fields, natural ventilation and the like. We cover all phases from programming to dra-wing, from project creation to building manage-ment and inspections. In addition hereto, we have in our employment brilliant interior designers un-derstanding how to create the proper atmosphere selecting the right furniture, design and colour combinations.

rENOvatION aNd INtErIOr dESIGN Renova-tion and interior decoration of offices and admi-nistrative facilities are fields that have taken us far. Our experience spans from the smallest re-novation of moving a few walls to the renovation of the Copenhagen Europe Centre’s impressive 25,000 m2. We have made office decoration for private businesses and we have created public areas and restaurants for the Danish Ministry of Culture.

EXChaNGE OF KNOWLEdGE, INNOvatION aNd EdUCatION At JJW, we have years of experience in designing optimal environments for sharing knowledge, innovation and education. We always focus on creative tailor-made solutions in colla-boration with the users, so that the interior deco-ration creates the right visual and physical iden-tity. We design robust and steady environment for curious children and exclusive designs for our business customers.

We also engage ourselves in the battle for crea-ting better indoor environments with the re-search project ”Noises in large Offices” on behalf of Work Environment Fund. Through this project, we have gained great knowledge in the field of acoustics which we apply in all of our projects. At JJW, we have focus on the good workplace. We have employed workplace designers, process consultants and specialist in acoustics in order to promote the very best in the company. We have developed dialogue tools so that we can bring our employees’ valuable knowledge in play creating the optimal buildings. We help the contractors

make the right choices fitting the company’s needs. We are proud to say that we oursel-ves are working in a tailor-made workplace.

JJW was part of the reconstruction of two existing resi-dences in order for the buildings to become modern, technical and organisational visionary and innovative open workplaces.

WOrKPLaCE dESIGN – the aim of the project viewed largely has been to enhance the identity cohesion and on a local level to create the best possible work envi-ronment for everybody. Work processes, sharing of knowledge and allowing workspaces for immersion have been the challenge areas; furnishing, technology and use of space have been the tools used.

thE StratEGy FOr thE aCOUStICS – In collaboration with Grontmij-Carl Bro, JJW has developed an acous-tics strategy for the vibrant house. the sound strategy begins with the basic parameter to create acoustically sound absorbing and pleasant environments that take away unwanted noise, but maintains the necessary and stimulating sounds.

thE USEr PrOCESS: as part of the development of the vibrant house, several parallel user processes and workshops have been conducted concerning clarifica-tion of needs and development potentials and to edu-cate the employees in how to interact and work in the new workplace. When new areas were ready for use, then the employees in each division were given a train-ing session in order to be ready to work in the new man-ner.

JJW has participated in the work to recreate this raw structure to a modern and open office covering four floors. Our role as tenant counsellors entailed a wide variety of tasks in order to ensure that the ten-ant’s needs and requirements in regards to getting a physical environment which truly supported the company satisfactorily in this specific building. these tasks spanned from test fitting and refitting the plan arrangement and the materials, inventory project, graphical profile, inspections on the building site and the handing over related tasks. When working with old industrial buildings, many details have been sought maintained – e.g. an old iron cast stairwell leading up in the silo, iron hoops, raw wall and columns. the floors are linked by one large atrium, from where the house comes together and from where it separates. the workplaces divide into the façade and furthest away from the heart of the house. “We have aimed at optimizing the m2 usage – without compromising with the work environment. the latest aPv proofs that we have succeeded. the satisfaction with the physical en-vironment herein include the acoustics shows a high level of satisfaction. We did use all of our competences and all of our knowhow in the fields of creating a good workplace, with good acoustics and good work envi-ronment”, says Pernille Bastrup henriksen, Project manager

the beautiful brick building with large industrial win-dows, a high tower and very generous storey heights situated in Carl Jacobsens vej in valby (Copenhagen) was formerly used as henkel Soap Factory

JJW participated in the work process of transforming this raw structure to a modern and open office over four storeys. Our role as tenant counsellor consists of a wide array of tasks in order to ensure that the tenant’s needs and requirements in regards to get-ting the physical surroundings which truly support the company satisfactorily in this building; we have taken on tasks from object finder, the user process, the fit-ting of plan arrangement, to the interior and planning project, the graphical profile, inspection on the buil-dings site and the hand over related tasks.

For this thorough renovation, the entrepreneurs have focussed on maintaining the old industrial character, but also fitted in modern sustainable solutions. this has been achieved by making green roofs, energy windows with an old industrial look, along with hy-brid ventilation using preheated air and air ventilation through an open atrium and using roof lights.

BaININTERIOR DESIGN

NEW SEttINGS

In a historical industrial building from 1895 the consul-tancy firm Bain & Company resides in a new setting.JJW take on many assignments for international companies. the Bain & Company project is a perfect example thereof.

the task for Bain & Company that JJW has fulfilled included needs clarification, area analysis, test inte-rior design in relations to property tax assessment and all the way to the final selection of tenancy.Following this, JJW worked out a complete design concept for the interior design and reconstruction, this was done in close dialogue with Bain & Company and the owner of the house ’the danish City and Port authority’. It has been a basic parameter for JJW that the core values of the company are reflected in the project and that the values are visually expressed in the architecture. the end result is a design that takes its point of departure in Bain & Company’s internatio-nal guidelines, and intertwines the local and Nordic interpretation.

JJW was given the task to create new settings for the company in a tenancy, with focus on identity, colours and optimal work places. Character has been achieved by simple means, colours, choice of materials, special furnishing and lightning being added to an otherwise ordinary office environment.

a striped centre, on the basis of Eli Lilly’s colour pa-lette, became a significant focal point. the striped centre forms the backbone of the common zone with a café, meeting facilities, a reception and amphitheatric stairs and for the more calm office pockets separated by smaller conference rooms and acoustics mobile bookcases.

the task included tenant counselling, interior design and design of special furnishing. the project has been carried out in close dialogue with the entrepreneurs Boka group and CB richard Ellis.

NOvEL thINKING CONCErNING WayS OF WOrK

Cisco Systems is an international company which is market leader in its field of supplying network solu-tions to companies. In collaboration with CBrE, JJW have been counselling the company in regards to the move from Søborg to a new residence in Frihavnen. the counselling has included choice of tenancy, test interior design, the creation of the rebuilding project and the design concept and thereto attached coordi-nation.

throughout the process, the partners have been en-joying a close dialogue; the partners are Cisco’s inter-national Work Place Unit, Cisco denmark, CBrE and the JJW architects. It has been a prerequisite from Cisco that the project reflected its global standards for ways of working and for the workplace layout and design; in addition hereto the house had to showcase Cisco’s technology and brand.

the result is that Cisco has moved from being a company organised traditionally in its physical layout with offices of different sizes with workplaces to a more open structure and workplaces being more fle-xible. Cisco wanted to think in new ways of working; this meant that there are 50 percent fewer desks and a high number of flexible places to work, such as work-ing in the cafés, in the lounge, in silent rooms and in conference rooms. Cisco feels that it has more room to work in than previously, in spite of having less square meters than before..
