The Foundation’s mission is to combat antisemitism, hatred, and the demonization of Israel, in particular as these are growing concerns in colleges and universities. We want to help students understand how antisemitism and hatred work, how to fight against the demonization of those deemed “other,” and how to practice empathy and critical thinking. Our CURRENT PROJECTS include: * A grant of $12,000 to Bard College, for students who want to pursue an internship with an organization working to combat antisemitism or hatred. * The underwriting of an upper level interdisciplinary college course on antisemitism, to be taught at Bard in the spring of 2016. Our FUTURE PROJECTS may include: * An expanded internship program, providing college students who want to work with non-profit and other organizations combating antisemitism and hatred here and abroad assistance to do so, both with funds and mentoring. * A syllabus on “Antisemitism and the Law,” for law schools and as an upper level undergraduate course for universities. * A groundbreaking project to help first year college students reject the type of “binary” thinking that is too prevalent these days. Too often when identity and a sense of justice combine, the capacity for nuance, empathy, and the recognition that one might be wrong are diminished. Our program will help students understand that while there’s nothing wrong with political passion, they should be aware of what happens to them and their thinking and emotions in this environment, and why there is a correlation between binary thinking and bigotry. More information about our philosophy and programs (including one to support victims of antisemitic hate crimes), or with a donation that will enable additional students to be impacted by our programs, please visit our website: http://www.jkrfoundation.org.
