Julio Mariño draws unreservedly upon his vast experience as the owner of
the former Galería Contemporánea, and an artist in his own right. Galería
Contemporánea was a well-established South American full service art
gallery and frame factory in old town Montevideo, Uruguay.
Julio Mariño was born in Treinta y Tres, Uruguay in 1932. At a young age he
began to study art with professors Taranco and Mancebo Rojas. In his early
twenties he moved to the capital Montevideo, and began his long career in the
art world. In 1970 he opened the Galería Contemporánea, whilst befriending
leading and upcoming painters of the time, like the “Group 8” artists.
As an artist, Julio Mariño´s work reveals a unique and individual style: mostly
neo-fi gurative. It is found in private collections worldwide.
Julio Mariño currently resides in Washington, D.C. He continues to provide
ingenious solutions and advice to clients on wide-ranging aspects of art
management & collection; restoration & conservation; and curatorial & exhibit
installation matters.
He is the curator of the Uruguayan Embassy´s Cultural Foundation for the
Arts and is actively involved in sponsoring the arts in the nation´s capital.
He welcomes guests to his home studio in the heart of the city for private
showings.
JM-Arte Fine Arts
Born November 1, 1943, in Montevideo, Uruguay.
A serious and avid student of psychology and history, he joined the Seminary in Buenos Aires
for a career in the ministry. Eager in his search for Truth, he discovers painting as the means to
express his dreams in life meshed into nature itself. He begins to study art with professor Manuel
CASTILBLANCO marking the beginning of work that strives to translate the raw expressions
of his true self. He is also a poet and illustrator whose publications have appeared nationally
and abroad. While mostly residing in Argentina, he also spends long periods of time in Cabo
Polonio, Uruguay. Collectors of his unique art are found in Asia, Europe, Israel and the Americas.

JM-Arte Fine Arts
Born December 31, 1951 in Sarandí Grande, Florida, Uruguay.
In 1978 he moves to Montevideo, the capital to study art with Daymán ANTÚNEZ and professor Miguel
Ángel PAREJA and later on, the SALGUERO atelier. He takes painting very seriously. He works hard to turn
his canvas subjects into true images of his own experiences. There is a tenacious youthfulness, simplicity,
glow and candor in his paint-brush strokes, always fl ashing out unadulterated colors galore. M. GIACOYA
knows how to combine childhood memories and nostalgia with the spontaneous and impetuous reality
of his “nowadays” world. Oftentimes, his canvas are large. His favorite subjects depict the landscapes of
the earth sprouting to bear fruit. These are farmlands, farmers; livestock, ranches, still life in huge pots
overfl owing with fl owers, all taking over the entire canvas; streetscapes that take us anywhere in the world.
A profound naïve sense of self gives this painter a universal imprint; therefore his inanimate and animate
fi gures become a part of his signature style.
For the last 18 years M. GIACOYA has been residing permanently in Punta del Este, Uruguay working in his
own atelier and teaching art since 1986.
Many art museums in Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil, Israel, and the United States have chosen to include his
artwork in their permanent collections. His art is also widely found in private collections in Argentina,
England, Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Hong Kong, China as well as in Japan and the Middle East.

1918 – 2006. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay
Self taught, he begins to paint in 1938. Sun, Sky and Sea are the make up of his steadfast
and unrelenting inspiration. From the very outset, he sets himself apart for his very
unique personal style. Intellectually restless, all his paintings loom out of “his every-day
life experience”. Letting his imagination fl y, A. MONTANI plunges into the universality
of MANKIND with his brush strokes. Defi nitely a modern painter: His view of the Cosmos
goes hand in hand with his relentless quest for what lies beyond our terrestrial planet; he
is touched by his surroundings and ready to capture life’s interwoven mysterious rhythm.
All his insight is revealed with color and bold humanism. He mainly uses oils on canvas
producing magnifi cent photographic eff ects.
Mr. MONTANI’s artwork is represented in several museums: Museo de Bellas Artes, Museo
Nacional Juan Manuel Blanes in Uruguay; Museo de Arte Moderno in Sao Paolo, Museo
de Arte Moderno in Río do Janeiro, in Brazil; Minnesota Art Museum, U.S.A.; Museo de
Arte Contemporáneo, in Santiago, Chile and Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Sala Santa

JM-Arte Fine Arts
Born June 12, 1932, in Treinta y Tres, Uruguay.
Much interested in arts, at an early age, he fi rst studies technical line drawing with professor
TARANCO and painting techniques with maestro Mancebo ROJAS.
In 1948 he moves to the capital city of Montevideo. Soon thereafter, he joins ZUBIRÍ” and later
“BOEDO y QUINAZ”, -- two well established art galleries in the city. These jobs aff ord him a
deep learning experience in the fi eld, and also the opportunity to meet the foremost artists
of that time, like portrait painter Julio VIDAL LAQUE and Julio VERDIÉ, of the “Grupo 8” who
encourage him to pursue his studies. In 1972 Mr. Mariño opens his own art gallery, -- GALERÍA
CONTEMPORÁNEA, consisting of a show room, a framing factory, a restoration workshop, and
Mr. VERDIÉ´s atelier, who now paints exclusively for the new gallery, on premises. Meanwhile,
Mr. Mariño as an artist, continues to develop his own unique style working on diverse mixed
media techniques such as using oils and enamels together. In 1977 he becomes a founding
member of the “Asociación de Galeristas del Uruguay” and is appointed Commissioner to the
Sao Paolo Biennial Exhibition. In 1993-94 he opens an art school in his Gallery.
Since 1995, Mr. Mariño resides mainly in Washington, DC, where he is most actively involved in
the art business. Throughout his long and successful career, with good judgment, Mr. Mariño
has been instrumental in advising clients when shaping and setting up their collections. His
own works are part of collections in Asia, Europe and the Americas.
