The building is located in Ramos Meija, a suburb of Buenos Aires. The market demanded one and two bedroom apartments. We placed emphasis on functional space before formal concept. The design goal was large apartments, comfortable balconies, abundant daylighting and open views. The distinctive character of the building in comparison with its neighbors produced a very successful response from the market, and consequently a significant economic return.

Jersey City is rapidly transforming with a recent influx of young professional families looking to buy homes. JMA recognized the opportunity to contribute to this growth and change within Jersey City, by creating an urban infill project that provided high-quality, efficient, units of high-design. 93 Bright St transformed a dilapidated lot into an innovative multi-family residence with 4-single family condos, each with their own outdoor space. The green roof provides expansive views of Jersey City, Journal Square, and Lower Manhattan. The design respects its surroundings by implementing ratios, proportions, and materiality from neighboring buildings into the exterior design.

The Manila townhouse was an existing residential brownstone in Jersey City. JMA performed a substantial renovation and reconfiguration of the space, transforming it into an up-to-date, efficient home. We took some of the existing historic character of the building and emphasized it, creating a unique interior of both old and new. Exposed brick walls were revealed from under existing walls. Key windows were largened to increase the amount of natural light allowed into spaces. Indirect accent lighting is strategically placed to add a natural-accentuating touch to ceilings and walls. The facade, cornice, and railing details were restored based on historic photos. The front door was replaced with a replica of the original.

It is with both hope and confidence that these projects will help to reinvigorate this area and will provide a local beacon for growth and sustainability that will inspire future projects nearby to strive for the same standards and performance.
