Egg Osmosis Experiment
Purpose
To observe osmosis in a cell.1. Place egg in vinegar
to remove shell.2. Measure weight of
egg using a balance .
3. Measure size egg using measuring tape.
Purpose
To observe osmosis in a cell.
To place one egg in water
To place one egg in corn syrup
Hypothesis
Corn Syrup
Size: bigger
Weight: heavier
Looks like: bigger than the usual and slimy
Hypothesis
• Water
Size: the same
Weight: the same
Looks like: no difference
Materials• Eggs
• Beaker
• Balance
• Measuring Tape
• String
• Vinegar
• Corn syrup
• water
Observations
Before After
Corn Syrup Weight : 71.5 g Weight: 50.6 g
Size: 16 cm Size: 14.5 cm
Water Weight: 71.4 g Size: 87.5 g
Size: 16 cm Size: 18.5 cm
Observations
After 24 hrs. in vinegar: egg shell disappeared, squishy and bouncy
After 24 hrs. in corn syrup: egg is dented and deflated
After 24 hrs. in water: egg got fatter
Observations
Corn Syrup Egg(after)
Water Egg(after)
Conclusion
Conclusion
The corn syrup egg got smaller because water moved out of the egg. This was due to the fact that the egg has a higher water concentration than the corn syrup. The water moved from higher concentration (egg) to lower concentration (corn syrup).
The water egg got bigger because water moved into the egg. This was due to the fact that the egg had a lower concentration of water. The water moved from higher concentration (water) to lower concentration (egg).
Hypothesis Conclusion
Water Egg Size - wrong Egg got bigger did not remain the same
Weight - wrong Egg got heavier not the same
Corn syrup Egg Size - wrongEgg did not bloat up instead inflated
Weight - wrongEgg did not get heavier but lighter
