Program Coordinator

Position Overview
The Education and Workforce Development Program Coordinator will support the work of UNITE-LA,
the Education and Workforce Development Division of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.
This position reports to the Director of Education and Workforce Development. It is a hourly non-
exempt position with full benefits, including paid sick leave, vacation, 401(k) participation, health,
vision and dental.
The Education and Workforce Development Program Coordinator will support:
L.A. Cash for College Campaign: The L.A. Cash for College Campaign works to increase college
access by providing information and assistance to students and families about financial aid and
scholarship opportunities. The annual College & Career Convention, a two-day event in the fall, attracts
more than 13,000 students and their families to attend college prep and financial aid workshops. In the
winter, UNITE-LA helps coordinate over 150 financial aid workshops, providing assistance to students
and their families in completing required forms for federal and state financial aid. The campaign awards
scholarships in the spring to students at an annual Scholarship Awards Reception.
College Counselor Organization of Los Angeles (CCOLA): A peer-led organization that facilitates
professional development sessions to enhance support amongst Los Angeles college counselors.
Job Responsibilities
Program Coordination (L.A. Cash for College): Responsible for implementing the year-round L.A.
Cash for College Campaign including the annual two-day College & Career Convention, Financial
Aid Workshops, Follow Up Support Events, and Scholarship Reception. Organizes meetings, large-
scale events and programs; produces summary reports of meetings and events; tracks roles and
responsibilities; maintains databases and contact records; tracks progress of programs against goals
and strategic plans, meets project priorities and deadlines, represents and builds support for the
program, develops strategic partnerships to further the program’s mission and goals.
Event Planning: Provides leadership and support for department programs and events including, but
not limited to, logistical and operational support; event and meeting correspondence; program
organization, coordination, and implementation; produces high caliber professional style
memorandums, written correspondence, meeting minutes, and marketing copy.
Marketing and Communications Support: Works with Marketing Department to coordinate
content updates for the L.A. Cash for College website to ensure that program information is current
and easily accessible by external stakeholders. Assists in the creation of content and messaging for
various marketing materials, including program fact sheets, newsletter articles, and event flyers.

Development: Writes grants, sponsorship, and in-kind donation requests to raise funding for L.A.
Cash for College programming.
Performs other duties assigned by supervisor(s) or designee.
Requirements Bachelor’s degree preferred

Under general supervision of the L.A. Compact Senior Manager, the L.A. Compact Coordinator will provide administrative, communications, event planning, grant-writing, research, and project management support to UNITE-LA’s role as the convener of the L.A. Compact. This position requires close collaboration with other UNITE-LA staff and community partners to support the facilitation of several L.A. Compact workgroups. The L.A. Compact Coordinator will support the L.A. Compact Senior Manager as needed in ongoing capacity building, fundraising, strategic planning, publication development, performance measurement, and community engagement efforts for the L.A. Compact.

Workgroup Management and Meeting Coordination: Support L.A. Compact Senior Manager and other UNITE-LA staff to coordinate meetings, document discussions and action items, and communicate and follow up with partners of various collaborative workgroups, including the L.A. Compact Stewardship Group, the L.A. Regional STEM Hub, the L.A. Compact Business Collaborative, the Joint Advocacy Workgroup, the Workforce Systems Collaborative and the Higher Education Collaborative.
Communications: Lead the development and execution of communication strategies on behalf of the L.A. Compact, in collaboration with UNITE-LA staff and the L.A. Chamber’s marketing department, including:
o Develop and maintain content for the L.A. Compact website and the use of collaborative online tools to manage and facilitate communication between members of L.A. Compact workgroups
o Develop and execute social media strategies

o Develop content, messaging, and distribution strategies for various communication/marketing materials, including e-newsletters, fact sheets, and presentations
o Develop content and distribution strategy for e-newsletters for L.A. Compact workgroups and broader public audience
o Coordinate with other UNITE-LA staff to document L.A. Compact progress and accomplishments
o Develop regular communication strategies to share information about the work of the L.A. Compact with key audiences, such as L.A. Compact workgroups, L.A. Compact signers, elected officials, Chamber members, funders, and media
o Help develop customized presentations and materials for meetings with key decision making groups, funders, and conferences
o Resource Development: Support the L.A. Compact Senior Manager in researching and applying for grant opportunities as well as writing grant reports.
o Research: Help advance the L.A. Compact’s goals and strategies by staying up to date in current trends in education and workforce development best practices and policy issues.
Preferred Experience
Bachelor’s degree preferred
