Three-Person Raise

A Firefighters will find it necessary to use additional firefighters to raise the larger ladders, due to ladder weight

and size. With a three-person ladder raise, a rung raise should be used. The ladder may be carried using any one of

the carries, but, once the ladder butt is placed on the ground, the ladder should be pivoted to the rung raise

position with the fly section out prior to the raise. (The ladder can be pivoted before raising the fly section, if necessary.)

B The heeler remains at the butt end to heel the ladder. The firefighter in the mid position moves to the tip end and takes one of the beams from the raiser. Both of these firefighters are now raisers.

C The raisers lift the ladder and each placesa beam upon their shoulder. The heeler crouches down and grabs a rung with both hands and gives

the command and the raisers lift the ladder upand position under their respective beam.

D With their arms extended straight, each raiser proceeds toward the building, using the beam to lift the ladder. (If the fly section remains in, the ladder can be

pivoted at this point to move it to the outside.) The raisers now accept the weight and stability responsibility of the ladder. They each move to a position on the sides of the ladder and use their hands and feet to steady the

ladder.

E It is important for these firefighters to keep their hands away from the moving fly section and keep them

on the outside of the beam. The heeler grasps the halyard and extends the ladder to the proper position. All three firefighters watch the operation and watch to ensure the ladder is at the proper position and locked.

F The heeler then grasps the ladder with one hand on each beam. The raising firefighters then move back to

the outside of the ladder. Each places a foot on thebottom rung, while the inside firefighter uses both feet

to steady the ladder on the ground. All threefirefighters lower the ladder into the objective

until the tip is resting on the objective.
