What is the Community Access Program?

• Began as an initiative from Industry Canada in 1995 to provide access to the Internet to Rural Canada and those who can’t afford it.

• Program is provided across Canada.• The Community Access Program is made up

of community networks. In these networks exist CAP sites.

• The Province of PEI provides additional funding above what Industry Canada Provides.

• 81 Networks Across Canada• 25 Million Dollar Program for Canada• 38 Sites Across PEI From Tignish to East

Point• About 10,000 logons per month across

PEI• About 35 – 45 students hired each year

to work in CAP sites• Most sites are in rural PEI
