Dear Mrs. Hess:
I am currently a student at Bethlehem Center High School; I am in my senior year. And I am considering becoming a teacher, as my future career. My younger sister Mackenzie Little has you in class she adores you. I had suggested to the school that if I can get your permission that you might be willing to let me spend a day observing you so I can learn more about becoming a teacher.
I know I am asking quite a bit, but I would be extremely grateful if you allowed me to quietly observe you for a full-day as you go about your usual schedule. If possible, it would be helpful if we also had a short interview toward the end of the shadowing so I could ask you any questions I might have about your career after observing your activities and actions.
Thank you so much for considering my request. I really look forward to hearing from you about the job shadowing. If you need to reach me by phone or email even writing a letter, please feel free to call. My phone number is(724-963-8629) or email ([email protected]). Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
April
• Observations - They were on a schedule , they had morning work such as math problems. Then went into reading and writing.
• Work Climate - The work Climate was so exciting! I loved every moment of it. I had a smile on my face the whole time. The climate all in all was a warm smiling feeling, just being able to see the children learn.
• Types of Other jobs observed - Principal, lunch lady, Title 1 Reading Teacher
• Expectations - PATIENCE!!! Being willing to care for them, protecting them.
Yes, I would most definitely be interested in pursuing this career. I love the warm feeling of being around children, and not being able to do anything but smile. Yes, I can see that it may get stressful, but at the end of the day, it’s ALL worth it.
What I Enjoyed• I enjoyed seeing the children raise their hands and answer the questions.• All the children playing at recess (it reminded me of when I was in
elementary school).• When they all went to the library to pick out a new book and have a book
read to them. They were all ears.• What I really truly enjoyed was being able to see and experience the
teaching.
What I Could do without• The way that the children have to learn so much these days, I mean
science? The continents?
What did you learn in general about the work world?
• It’s serious.
• It’s the REAL world.
• You won’t get around by taking the easy way out.
• Life is not like high school.
• You pay for EVERYTHING.
• You take responsibly for your actions and you face the consequences.
