You will become more competent at emailing and improve your skills in navigating the internet and using search engines to search for jobs and occupational information. Come and learn more about targeting your resume for specific jobs and how to keep your resume in the to-be-inter-viewed stack.Fees: Fee waived for job seekers. Duration: 4 weeks

O F F I C E P R O F E S S I O N A L C E R T I F I C A T I O NProvides instruction on general principles and practices specific to administrative support staff. Em-phasis is on the skills and abilities needed to conduct a variety of office administrative activities using the latest technology. Core topics include use of integrated software packages, effective written/oral communication skills, applied math/reading skills, records management, legal/ethical issues, and other select topics relevant to specific business, government, and industry settings. Prerequisites: Must pass a basic computer assessment administered at the Goodwill Career Center. Fees: Course $180, Tech: $5. Duration: 12 weeks.

Students will learn to navigate and utilize the key features of an iPhone/iPad including the Native Apps, Messaging, FaceTime, Email, Calendar, Safari, Siri, and Photography. Students are encouraged to bring their devices to class.Fees: Course $75, Duration: 1 week.

C O M P U T E R C A R E E R S K I L L S G O O G L E G M A I LThis class is designed for the newer Google Gmail user. Learn more about Gmail, Calendars, Tasks, Contacts and get an introduction to Google Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides for your home or office productivity for your diversity of desktop or mobile computer devices. Students are asked to have a Google Gmail account that they are able to access set-up prior to the first day of class. Cost: $59, Duration: 1 week.

A D U L T B A S I C E D U C A T I O N A N D H I G H S C H O O L E Q U I V A L E N C YWe offer free instructional services to students seeking to improve their foundational skills in reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science. Class sessions run year-round and last for about eight weeks each. Regular attendance is required. Registration sessions for classes last four hours and include orientation to the program, pre-testing, and selecting appropriate classes to meet the students’ needs. This course provides a study of work-place Spanish for non-Spanish speaking employers, employees and job seekers who desire to enhance com-munication in the workplace. Students will learn to identify, minimize or eliminate barriers to communication and understanding between Spanish speakers and non-Spanish speakers.The curriculum utilizes a variety of engaging methods to address Spanish commands, questions, and phrases critical to the workplace. El Centro provides teacher-led group lessons for 6 months and it covers the basic classes (Reading/Writing, Science, Social Studies, Math) you need to prepare you for your GED exam. Tests are taken at Blue Ridge Community College in Spanish. Topics include acquiring leadership styles, handling conflict & improving and motivating employee performance. This class prepares you for but does not include the exam. C A R E - C O N T R O L L I N G A L C O H O L R I S K S E F F E C T I V E L Y ® Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively® (CARE) for servers is a four hour seminar that prepares servers with the proper knowledge of how to handle the challenges of responsible alcohol service. Class will include tutorials on setting up a LinkedIn account and will feature a representing guest speaker from a prominent networking and business relations group. Various fundamentals of networking will be discussed in depth, examining interpersonal methods for in person, email, and social media outlets. Principles of the book, “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie will be discussed to help students learn soft skill techniques to make them successful at any networking event.

Offered in partnership with TransTech, Inc., the Professional Driver Training School gives people the opportunity to earn their Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and is committed to the highest quality training standards by instructors with decades of professional driving experience. All trainees drive over mountainous terrain or multi-lane city driving, navigating real life conditions required for professional tractor trailer driving in a safe and monitored environment. The class is being offered in response to the increasing need for profes-sional truck drivers in the area. A new class is held every month. I N T R O D U C T I O N T O H U M A N S E R V I C E SIn this course, students will learn the skills needed to start a career in Human Services. Focus will include prepa-ration for the Career Readiness Certification assessment, customer service, roll playing, NCFAST terminology and navigation training. This course is a prerequisite in order to register for the Income Maintenance Casework-er course. You must pass a basic computer and keyboarding assessment prior to registration. A B T E C H C U R R I C U L U M C L A S S E SThis course introduces computer concepts, including fundamental functions and operations of the computer. Topics include identification of hardware components, basic computer operations, security issues, and use of software applications.
