Job Description • The Youth Justice Committee Program is a community-based program that is designed as an alternative to the

court-based system. It deals with minor first-time offences, both pre and post charge, committed by youth between the ages of 12 to 17 years. It includes participation of those who have been harmed, those who harmed and community members to provide an opportunity for healing and reparation for individuals and communities.

• The successful candidate will coordinate the Youth Justice Committee as outlined by the Ministry of the Attorney General. This position will involve work across Windsor and Essex County.

Role and Responsibilities • Manage extrajudicial measures (pre charge) and extrajudicial sanctions (post charge) referrals to the YJC

program, in accordance with protocols established by the YJC Steering Committee. • Recruit, screen, train and manage a diverse representation of potential YJC volunteers from local community as

required • Plan and organize annual volunteer recognition events in consultation with staff and immediate supervisor • Maintain professional development with respect to relevant legislation, standards, and best practices relating to

the YJC Program and volunteer management • Community outreach and education with respect to general public, police services, municipal committees,

school boards, post-secondary institutions, businesses regarding the YJC program • Assist in the ongoing evaluation of the YJC program as measured by satisfaction levels of victims, young persons,

supporters, and community participants through questionnaires, focus groups, and interviews. • Complete intake, interview and assess, explain process and procedure, and prepare individual participants (i.e.

victim, young person and parents) for YJC meetings. Note: these tasks can include evenings and weekends as per community need

• Co-ordinate YJC meetings, including contacting participants, setting up meetings and monitoring outcomes. • Communicate with victims with respect to restitution • Complete assessment/admission requirements for youth referrals to programming with local service providers • Communicate with local non-profit agencies and community organizations for the purpose of community service

work referrals and placements for young persons • Complete all relevant youth referral program documentation including reports to referral sources • Complete follow-up with victims as per measures agreed upon at YJC meeting • Facilitate L.O.S.S. programming to clients

Qualifications and Education Requirements • University degree in Social Sciences or equivalent preferred.
