  2. 2. Grade 2/3 Inquiry "Yet as I gazed from the deck at the surface of what ought to have been a pristine ocean, I was confronted, as far as the eye could see, with the sight of plastic.
  3. 3. How can we protect ourselves and our environment?
  4. 4. our first provocation was a Genius Hour an hour of exploration around forces , air and water
  5. 5. our grade 3s decided to focus on forces of nature and our grade 2s wanted to research air and water pollution as a class we decided our audience would be the other grade 2 and 3 classes in the school students wanted to invite their families to see their work too students wrote at least 5 questions they had on their topic and researched to find the answers students could choose any product many chose to do posters
  6. 6. researching safe search, search terms, finding important information taking point form notes asking rich questions media - poster design presentation skills persuasive letter writing point of view
  7. 7. Students brought in these demonstrations that they had worked on at home. Listening to the conversations in class, I could tell the students were very interested in air and water pollution as well as ways to help the air and water.
  8. 8. I searched online and came across this news clip Good Morning America and showed it to the class. My students were instantly passionate about this issue. There was a lot of energy in the room as they jumped in to action, planning as a group what they were going to do. They divided up into groups according to their strengths and got started.
  9. 9. we asked questions and recorded our learning together
  10. 10. this time, students worked in groups groups were based on similar interests and complementary skills we made a looks like, sounds like, feels like chart together

  15. 15. one of our parents is an artist the parent volunteered to come in and do a special art project with the class to showcase how to reuse plastic bags she worked with the students in small groups
