Jody Handler-Dickstein is known in local circles as the high-end luxury lister. And that pleases her. She came to real estate in 2000 with no back-ground in it at all, and today she’s the #1 broker in Glencoe, among all the agencies on the North Shore.

As befits her reputation, she provides outstanding service and follow-through. A “design girl,” she makes her sellers’

homes look beautiful before she lists them. Jody has a staging certificate, but she’ll often bring in a designer and have someone paint. “I give the sellers a list of what I think they should do before I list their home. If they do it, they’ll get a good sale!” she says.

She’s always thinking a step ahead. She worked in retail management for luxury department stores like Neiman Marcus

and Saks Fifth Avenue for 23 years. One day she realized that if she was so successful at that, surely she could do much better for herself. So she ended her retail career and went into real estate on the North Shore. “Sure enough,” she says, “the first year I did $5 million in sales. From there it just exploded.”

The award-winning REALTOR® spe-cializes in the luxury home market in

Glencoe, but she handles Winnetka, Highland Park and other areas as well. Her “bread and butter” sales range from $1.4 –1.8 million, but at any given time she has a few $2 million listings or a $6.5 million listing.

Understanding the market and how to work it are second nature to Jody. She uses the Internet for the bulk of her advertising, but print magazines have

a role too, from local publications to global magazines.

She’s no stranger to social media, either. “I’ll often buy ads on Facebook,” she says, “and target them to a particular Zip code. You can boost the amount of people who see them. Lots of millenni-als look at our listings that way, it’s a good source.”

After the transaction has closed, she stays in touch with clients through phone calls, birthday cards, mailings and a newsletter, as well as friend-ing them on social media and seeing them

in town. “I keep putting things in front of them,” she says.

As sincere and hard-working as Jody is with her clients, she puts similar effort into helping others. She’s involved with Families Anonymous, supporting parents whose children abuse drugs or alcohol and who are at their wits’ end. She and her husband also volunteer for the Ark, which provides free services to help distressed Jewish families in Chi-cago become self-reliant again, and they are supportive of their son’s socially conscious flower business, Flowers for Dreams (www.flowersfordreams.com),

Jody enjoys spending time with her family, too, including her three sons, two of whom recently graduated col-lege. She’s one of six siblings and her husband is one of four, so “family time” has a very broad meaning for them! She also likes designing her clients’ houses

and hunting for bargains. It’s one of her fun projects.

Another is teaching other agents how to go on listing appointments, secure list-ings and communicate with buyers and sellers. The volume of work she does keeps her from doing more of it, but she’ll get there. “My goal for the future is more time,” she says, laughing.
