What is the Torch Awards Program?

• Teach leadership and service• Foster an environment that values and encourages leadership

and service• Recognize leadership and service• Strengthen chapters and communities

Goals of the Torch Awards Program

• Based on the Torch Ceremony• Service and leadership activities in seven categories• Activities worth 5, 10, 15 or 20 points• Activities tracked in an online résumé• Advisor submits when milestones are reached

• Executive• Diplomat• Statesman• Ambassador

• Résumés reviewed and recognized by appropriate administrators

Levels of the Torch Awards Program

• Easiest to achieve

• Requires 10 points in each Torch Category

• Administered by Local Advisor or Local Officers

• Awarded at the local chapter level

• Deadline set by Local Advisor

Executive Torch Award

• Requires 30 points in each Torch Category

• Awarded at a Regional or State Conference

• Administered by a Regional or State Official

• Deadline set by State Advisor

• Some variance; ask your State Advisor

Diplomat Torch Award

• Requires 50 points in each Torch Category

• Awarded at State Leadership Conference

• Administered by a State Official

• Deadline set by State Advisor

• Some variance, ask your State Advisor

Statesman Torch Award

• Highest Torch Award level

• Requires 70 points in each Torch Category

• Awarded at the National Leadership Conference

• Administered by a National Staff

• Deadline to submit résumé is March 15

• No limit to number of Ambassadors

Ambassador Torch Award

• Torch Awards Pin• Torch Awards Certificate• Honor Reception at NLC• Other honors depending on level• Ambassador of the Year award at NLC for

each division

How are Winners Recognized?

• Provide each student with Member ID and Torch Password

• Help students plan and set goals

• Provide feedback throughout the year

• Submit completed résumés using the online system

• Recognize students who earn the Executive Torch Award (and, sometimes, Diplomat)

Role of the Local Advisor

• Participate, lead, be active!

• Ask your advisor for your member ID and password• You can change your password on the BPA Web site• http://www.bpa.org/awards/changepass

• Record activities using the online system

• Notify your advisor when you have reached enough points for a particular award

Role of the Participating Student

• Set a deadline for Diplomat/Statesman awards

• Evaluate submitted résumés using the online system

• Recognize students who have earned Diplomat/Statesman Torch Awards

• National Staff has the same role, but for Ambassador Awards

Role of the Regional/State Advisor

• Password: Assigned by advisor

• Local/State Advisors

• Same user name and password as for the Membership Registration System

Using the Online System: Logging In

• Available to all users

• Important Rules for Activities• Claim each project/event only once

• Major projects can be broken into segments• Enter activities after their completion• Each activity has a limit• Start each activity with an action verb• Use correct spelling and grammar

Using the Online System: Adding Activities

• This function available to local and state advisors

• Résumés must be submitted online to be eligible

• Each submitted résumé marked• Unreviewed• Rejected• Approved

• Approval is final, no other action required

• Rejected résumés can be edited and resubmitted

• Applying for a higher award does not require earning a lower award

Using the Online System: Submitting Résumés

• Available to State Advisors and their helpers

• Each submitted résumé marked as unreviewed until action is taken by State official

• Use links to see all résumés eligible for an award

• Use “Display/Export Data” to get list of approved students
